I thought Bruno was actually fighting a decent fight up to point where the fight was stopped . He did hold the back of Tyson's head a bit much but for the most part considereing what Tyson had just done to Spinks I think Frank gave Tyson a look that Tyson had not seen yet . That was a look of someone who was actually wanting to trade. your thoughts
Frank was constantly holding and hitting, which slowed the inevitable KO down and streched the fight out for a few rounds loger than it probablly would have gone had he not been bending the rules quite so blatantly.
Bruno did come to fight, and Mikes slip was beginning to show. Too bad there is nothing remotly going on like this fight in the heavyweight division today.
Was he? I never really noticed. And I as an englishman was rooting for Frank...even though I knew it was never really gonna happen short of a fluke bomb catching Tyson.
In all seriousness, Tyson was very reckless and fought pretty stupid. He was caught by a nice short hook by Bruno but that was basically it. It was suprising to see Tyson fight so sloppy against such a big puncher like Bruno. Everyone says Bruno was scared shitless in the second fight, but I never felt he had any fear of Tyson, especially in the first fight. He gave it a go, he was just too slow for Tyson.
He was scared shitless, although how much of that was down to Tyson and how much was down to his fiddling his way through a medical and fighting with a detatched retina I don't know.
Seldon I knew from the beginning was scared shitless, because it was so obvious in the prefight stuff, but I didnt find Bruno to be that way. I know he crossed himself a lot in the second fight, but he didnt seem to be scared during the fight, especially the first one. In the second fight, he was bigger slower, and he just couldnt cope with Tyson's speed, but he gave it a go.
the only time that Bruno looked scared was maybe the first minute and a half of rd 1. he fought the rest of the fight with courage.
Bruno was also largely outboxing Lennox Lewis until he got stopped, a very good fighter who unfortunately for him had no survival instincts.
Tyson weighed 218lbs for Bruno in Feb 1989, so he was not heavy! While Mike may not have perfrormed to the level that was expected of him that night, the finish, particularly the right to the body followed straight away by a right uppercut to the chin, is one of the best finishes I've seen! Once Tyson had you it was over!
frank was fighting scared. and with his unbelievable size and his strength, that always surprised me...frank took alot of shots before the ref stopped..if anything, he takes punishment well....
tyson decline started here. he was much easier to hit and overly agressive. bruno hit with a hell of a punch. bruno always a puncher. luckily for tyson, he has a great chin
