I think MMA and particularly the UFC is marketed a hell of a lot better than boxing. Hell I've been following boxing for over 30 years (ugg) and I can probably name more UFC fighters than boxers. Personally I'm not into the game of liking one or the other, I watch both because I can. I guess I enjoy fighting. Now I really enjoy watching GSP and Silvia, etc, just as much as I enjoyed watching Duran in the 70's. It's all about entertainment.

For me, I just want to see a good fight, I don't care if it's a boxing fight or an MMA fight. PAC vs Hatton, or Silva verses anyone, I'm fine with both and want to watch both. And as far as I'm concerned I'd sooner watch UFC on tv than follow the WK fight on a thread on ESB. Course I'd love to watch boxing on TV if they showed more of it.

It seems like you get better value for money with UFC PPV's. I tend to buy MMA PPV and watch boxing at the pub or club for free because alot of the time the undercards aren't as good but I think that has a lot to do with marketing the up and comers.

The ufc will be popular but mma need a couple of companies which rival ufc in America as well as around the world...

I dont think MMA has effected boxings popularity they are two different things, i would say the UFC has taken more fans away from the WWE than it has boxing.

MMA was hardly mentioned 5 years ago. Now it's even being mentioned on boxing shows. It certainly hasn't got the world wide appeal like boxing at the moment. But the next 5 years will be interesting to see how much it comes a long.

The UFC is definitely paving the way for MMA world wide. They are really moving through Europe and many European fighters are becoming well known ie Kongo, Hardy. Now I hear UFC will be moving into Asia within the next year, I heard which country but I can't remember, I want to say Korea though.

****, does anyone remember which country UFC plans to go too in Asia?

It hasnt though. The numbers are slightly less in WWE because the product has got worse but there not flocking to MMA as is the common opinion. Vince's WM are still HUGE! And the numbers that Dana can only dream of.

An interesting showdown between UFC and Boxing will occur on Sat.Sept. 19th,when UFC PPV goes head to head with Mayweather vs Marquez.
I predict the UFC will beat the hell out of the boxing PPV,and I am a boxing fan.
    Stay tuned for the results.:deal

Im sure WWE now shows like 24 PPVs a year as well. Some of their fans probably dont want to spend $60 a month on PPVs!

Fact of the matter is who cares? How can you compare a series of INDENDANTLY managed fighter vs a franchise run by one promoter?

That was no fluke, man, Mercer has been in with some of elite HW's of the 90's he's given most of top the HW's a hard time,

Mercer always threw punches with bad intentions, he threw a punch with a bad intention on it at Sylvia and the glorified barroom brawler got KTFO by a boxer

I heard a rumour that UFC 103 will have Shane Carwin vs Cain Velasquez and/or Rich Frankilin vs Chuck Liddell for the main event. If this is true I'll be watching Floyd live and watch 103 on replay and I'm more of an MMA fan.

MMA or rather UFC is more popular in North America.

A great example is MMA is like a poor mans version of American football. Its popular in North America but its really not that popular outside of it.

Boxing is like a poor mans Soccer, its an international sport that is relevant around the world.

Liddell needs to retire. This is ridiculous to even think that the UFC would still put this guy on a main card in a PPV.

They have to rehash all the name guys until they get seriously hurt. They have 3 Marquee guys to market who are in their primes and two of them doesnt speak english well.

They have no "real" prospect like a Gamboa or a Korobov in boxing.

They have some semi intriguing (who shows promising talent)guys that still must warm up to the fans like MAia, JDS and Hazelett. After that there are a bunch of gatekeepers who will win 1 and lose 1.

Then they have semi charismatic fighters theyre banking on not to really win a title but for pure demographics such as Diego, Rampage etc etc.

Spot on with regards to the NFL analogy, only thing is the NFL alone even though not on Soccers level internationally is probably the most successful american pro sports and that carries alot of weight by itself

Boy does UFC have a ton of gatekeepers. Its amazing watching a card and thinking my god, these guys will never, NEVER compete for a title.
