Cotto vs Pacquiao will be like Cotto vs Torres !!!

Cotto will not hurt Pacquiao. He will never be close enough for long enough to set himself and deliver one serious bodyshot that's not from a stationary position in a clinch (and therefore devoid of any real venom/power), and he has neither the speed nor accuracy when it comes to headshots to connect cleanly with Pacquiao's head, as Pac will be in perpetual motion the entire night.

This fight is made for Manny. He won't beat Miguel as easily as he beat Hatton, but the ending will be emphatic nonetheless.

Yeah Pacquiao fights like the energiser bunny, i think his movement will nullify Cotto's attack to the body. I wouldn't be surprised if Cotto timed Pacquiao a few times coming in but i don't think he can stop Pac with individual shots, he would need to sustain a consistent attack and land frequently for that to happen which i don't see happening.

Why would he even try? Cotto is the bigger, stronger man and needs to be aggressive and put pressure on him and see if Pac can take punches from a real WW.

But Hatton landed a shot in the 2nd round that any good boxer would have capitalized on...:dead

Keep picking against Pac Selschill. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

 Pac will never stop being underrated because every time he performs, the win is attributed to his opposition.

As long as Pac keeps utilizing his lateral movement, never lets Cotto back him up, keeps the fight in the central area, keeps attacking in and out, using angles - this fight is his.

Cotto can keep Pac at bay with his jab and he is also very good at cutting the ring off.

Cotto doesn't really throw the jab with any consistency. Its a physically impressive jab but he applies it sporadically.

You'll actually find that my entire attitude towards Manny Pacquiao changed after he stopped Ricky Hatton in 2 rounds. I promised it would beforehand.

That said, I'm as concerned with Cotto's offensive abilities as much as I am with Manny Pacquiao's and that is a lot more that can be said for a few posters who has contributed to this discussion.

It's almost as if for all of the speed, ability, and will Cotto has displayed in his career, he'll be standing taking free shots from Manny. I don't see it that way. He showed he could counter a speedster in Mosley. Much like you feel Pacquiao is a victim, Cotto was accused of fighting a shot Mosley by many a poster at ESB. He didn't get the credit that win deserved, and in light of Mosley's recent performances, that's an injustice.

Likewise, for some strange reason, Cotto's stock has dipped even further as a result of him beating a top rated Welterweight with only one eye. I did get flashbacks to the Margarito fight half way through when he was on the backfoot, but he ultimately overcome the bad eye and the ability of his opposition. Clottey is a great fighter, and he was unable to capitalise. This should have reinvigorated Cotto to star status again, in my opinion.

Just because I am picking Cotto does not mean I am underrating Manny Pacquiao. The only fighter who has been underrated thus far in this disccusion is Cotto. Virtually nobody has considered what he'll be doing offensively. He can time Manny and catch him coming in with swift counters. There is no doubt in my mind he will land more shots than Oscar, Diaz, and Hatton could manage all accumtaively.

Do I think Pacquiao can stand up to Cotto's shots? I don't know but I think he will have to in order to win this fight.

    I disagree with DINAMITA.

Miguel Cotto has limitations, obviously, but his accuracy is surely not one of them. This is one of those replies that can only really be backed up with video evidence, but to watch Cotto sweep the opening 6-7 rounds against Margarito, and to see him counter Mosley's right hand with his jab is to see his accuracy. There'll be on youtube, entertain yourself. Miguel Cotto more often than not finds the target when he lets his big shots go.

Manny will be in motion throughout the entire fight? Perhaps, but with the style of Miguel Cotto, Pacquiao will be forced to lead at some point in the fight. I actually think Cotto is very effective on the back foot. He has been criticised for it in 2 of his last 3 fights but people forget how dominant Cotto was until the 7th against Antonio Margarito. They also forget that for all of the backward motion he displayed against Clottey in the later rounds, he closed out stronger than Clottey did, which inevitably won him the fight.

Handspeed will heavily favor Manny Pacquiao in this fight, but Cotto has already displayed the awareness to counter effectively with timing. I keep repeating myself, but his performance against Shane Mosley should not be understated. Mosley was a formiddable opponent at that time and now, and Cotto was getting his shots in before Mosley, who expected to get him out of there with the first right hand that landed. He defied Mosley.

Miguel Cotto will find the target at some point in this fight, whether it be leading or countering Pacquiao coming in. Pacquiao has only shown to be elusive against David Diaz and a weight drained opponent in Oscar De La Hoya. He was hit by Hatton in the 2nd round, even if he did put on a dazzling display of punching power that night, and to think Hatton could land but a much more polished fighter like Cotto couldn't makes no sense to me.

I don't want to entertain the idea that Manny has been fighting lesser opposition, he hasn't, but it should be acknowledged that Oscar was not in any decent physical shape the night he fought Manny.

Nah most likely not . . . even if Cotto is not 100% due to weight adjustment . . . I don't see Pac standing and exchanging with Cotto like Torres did.

. . . and besides Cotto has fought bigger 147 pounders and proven he can receive and survive solid punches from them . . . so I don't think Pac has enough power to KO Cotto.

Stoppage due to accumulation of punches . . . yes!

pacquiao couldn't finish oscar because he wasn't committing to his punches. he was throwing mostly for volume but not for power, there were a few times where pac would sit on his punch like in the closing second of the final round where he almost threw dela hoya into the corner like a beaten rag doll with one punch. but most of the fight, pac was throwing arm punches and his footwork shows he was ready to get away as soon as possible in case dela hoya would punch back

Lighten up and fix your story. :D

There was no plan to finish Oscar early . . . that was openly declared by team Pac themselves before the fight

. . . the plan is to take him out late and that's why Pac started to sit on his punches only around the 5th round . . . and DLH quit so the KO didn't happen. If he didn't . . . DLH is going down the next round. :yep
