I need to stop loading up and looking for the monster shot all the time.

How can I mentally stop myself doing this?

Its probably counter productive in getting a knockout.

I haven't knocked anyone down yet despite having a pretty decent punch.

Start when your training. When working the bag and shadow boxing, focus more on footwork and timing. That way when your sparring/fighting you'll be more likely focus on footwork and timimng.

Spend a lot of time on the double end bag. You will be unable to keep a rythmn if you load up on your shots. Get used to throwing quick, sharp combinations on this bag and finish each round with a finishing shot. With my fighters i'll set them to work on the de bag and instruct them to focus on keeping the bag moving and staying on balance, at a random time i'll blow a whistle which signals to them to finish the job... ie twat it as hard as they can.

Firstly, I am a young fighter, and dont have near the experience most on this boad do..Been fighting (legit at a gym) for about a year and only have one fight under my belt..

But there are a couple things I have learned, and this is why you simply can not become a good fighter on your own without a good gym..

Boxing is so deceptive, first thing that comes to mind is how throwing a one-two is less tiresome than throwing a single jab..Why? Well, what happens if you dont throw a single jab with conviction? Mhmm, so you have to put some mustard on it, where as the 1-2 flows together, and still has pop. Your shot will have more power if you stress distance, timing, and speed(relax your shoulders as well) than if you hold your breath and swing with all your might. Also, of course a punch that doesnt land is usually not effective....usually dont land loaded up shots.

this is more on our topic here... I always watched fighters thinking "how do they think so well in the ring all the time".. Well, chances are they dont....Muscle Memory = boxing, haha.. Seriousley though, so next time you train, focus on technique, fluidity, than lastly speed.. these 3 things will bring power anyway.. All that loading up on punches wears youre ass out too, and makes you think youre out of shape when its not ture probably, you are just breathing all the air out of your system or holding your breath.. So shadowbox, work the bag, focus on relaxation, breathing, and fluidity is what I'd do.. I had the same problem for the first few months as a matter of fact though...Another thing Punching is not ****, even on the heavybag, you know what my main focus is? What I do in between combinations...

Well...Maybe 10 words of that will answer your question, but I had a lot of **** on my head...haha

use your powerpunch when needed, dont go looking for the knockout straight away, however powerful it is a decent opponent will make sure the only thig it knocks out is fresh air, dont look for it with a single shot, try to set it up with jabs and feints. doing this before your next fight will be a big bonus, your opponent will see you as a blaster who throws big shots so giv him a suprise by mixing it up and then when you feel the time is right let th big shot go,, hopefully its lights out. although thrown lots of wild powerpunchers isnt smart dont take it away from your arsenal,, if your up against a better opponent who is winning the fight handsomely ur powerpunch maybe needed to save you from defeat, hope this helps!!!!!
