    Criteria:

    More than 25 fights
Their last fight was fought after 1970-otherwise the thread would be ATG fighters.

David Tua, even if he was limited, he deserved to hold a title. Beat lots of former champs - Rahman, Ruiz, Moorer, Maskaev

Always a good discussion thread and brings out more 'unlucky challengers' each time. I'll push the Aussie barrow (AGAIN!) by offering a shortlist.

Perhaps our unluckiest was HECTOR THOMPSON:

Hector Thompson was unlucky to be fighting in an era where two absolute legends stood between him and world title honours. He only went 8 rounds for the lightweight title with Duran in 1973, but hurt Duran like few before or since. Even Duran himself said 'that Aussie hit me harder than anyone'. Thompson also fought Cervantes for the light welter title in 1975. Thompson's overall record read 73 wins, 12 losses & 2 draws.

Other honourable mentions to Aussies since 1970:
    TONY MUNDINE (Snr).
    CHARKEY RAMON.
    PAUL FERRERI.
    TROY WATERS.

(naturally there are others but I've been biased enough already!).

The man in your avatar beat the man i mentioned in a true struggle, great fight, and close also.

Thanks for the post, mine was one of a bias nature as well, he's from about 5 minutes from where i live and am sitting right now.

Rudkin was the first name I thought of, excellent fighter. World title shots against Harada, Rose and Olivares; how bloody unlucky is that?

I need to check Sands out more, though I hear good things.

The first name I was going to run with Rock but Richardinho set a post 1970 criteria and locked him (and others) out.
