So much ignorance concerning Calzaghe amongst boxing fans today.

The man was a great fighter, that much cannot be denied, well it can, but not with much credibility.

I'm sick of hearing the 'Lacy was a bum' chestnut. Before the fight most people believed Calzaghe was there to be taken by the younger, stronger Lacy, heralded as the second coming of Tyson. Calzaghe systematically took him to pieces and all of a sudden Lacy is a bum. Make your mind up. Just because Lacy has performed poorly since then (why do you think that is?) doesn't make him a bum.

And to say Calzaghe is a bum is beyond laughable, in fact, it's not even worth talking about. By the way, with regard to Joe losing to Hopkins, if landing more punches and taking less equates to losing a fight, then yeah he must have lost :roll:

ok now back to the thread...i suppose the towel coulda been thrown in at any of the later rounds. that fight is what is called "gettin taken out behind the woodshed"

but i think it raises another question...if this beating "ruined" lacy, would it have ruined him any less if his corner decided it was time to save him?? i mean mentally for lacy. was it better for him mentally to finish the fight than to get pulled out by his corner?

 

if his corner had pulled him out he could have always thought in his head i could have beat him 1 punch and he was mine and could blame his corner to keep him thinking he is world class.

when you get assaulted for 12 rounds and make it to the bell you can not blame anyone. you lost because you were not good enough and not that the ref stopped it to early or i was not really hurt or i could have had him i could feel he was getting tired.

what i find laughable is people think lacy was the same fighter following that fight,you know the usual over hyped crap, yes maybe a little but not to the extent he has been made out to be,no way..

lacy was a massive prospect and calzaghe was the underdog believe it or not, the beating was a once in a lifetime event almost,it was awe-inspiring and no fighter would ever recover from that mentally,lacy is a shadow of his former self.

p.s lacy sparred endlessly with winky wright for that fight,and easily held his own.
