The 1 or 2 shots that landed may have looked effective but Calzaghe's whirlwind volume told the real story in the 2nd 1/2 of the fight. Hopkins being forced to grab, clutch, and fake the low blows, by being worn to a nub dispells the notion that Hopkins landed the more telling blows.

I had Calzaghe winning 114-113 barely.

Nothing clear about that and it could have gone either way.

Just to hard to score some rounds to a guy who only throws a right hand straight all round.

No you couldn't. Calzaghe doesn't punch hard enough anymore to KO someone with a chin like Hopkins.

he was still closer to his prime. he gets some points for beating hopkins, even though prime hopkins would likely beat him, but roy jones? he fought a dead man, and still got dropped.

I scored it to Hopkins by a point. Based on clean, effective punching, and ring generalship.

There was nothing 'clear' about. Anyone who who scored it to either man by more than a point or two is crazy, IMO.

Doesn't surprise me though, given that a significant minority of Calzaghe fans are rabid nuthuggers who say **** like 'it was 9 rounds to 2, with 1 even'

I promised I wouldn't comment on this subject any more and I will stay true to that. I am simply pasting my first post in again to annoy Socrates, that lovable little scamp:

If you score the fight based on who is moving his hands more and scowling more fiercely and dancing around awkwardly punching air, then it's hard NOT to give the fight to Calzaghe,
    BUT
if you score the fight on actually doing damage to the other fighter with your fists, on a round by round basis,
then it's hard not to give the fight to hopkins

Hopkins won that fight. One punch that lands is worth more than several that don't.

Calzaghe has been involved in a fair few boring, ugly fights to be honest. The David Starie fight was Calzaghe's first real chance to be seen by a global audience and the fight was terrible.

People seem to gloss over the dark days of Calzaghe's career when he was involved in lots of in boring mismatches that had poor viewing figures on Sky. Remember that Sky didn't renew their contract with Frank Warren because the fights he was putting on were crap and nobody was tuning in to see them.

As for the Hopkins fight I've still only seen it the once and I didn't score the fight as I watched but thought it was close. Can't argue with who got the nod although by the end I think I'd gone past caring.

I won't argue over who won, but I do know who lost! THE FANS! That fight was damn near un-watch-able.

The reason you find it so boring is because most people disagree with you and you find that irritating.
