Hagler did more. He was in there with better people.

For Leonard to move up in the ratings all he had to do was handle Nunn, Jackson and Norris successfully. It's not asking alot for someone that people here insist is ranked in the top 15

That is why I have Ali outside the top 10 at Heavy. He should have handled Holmes and Berbick, aswell as Tyson and Bowe.

Both were aged but Hagler was ring worn-that's the difference.

Like Hopkins, Leonard had a lot of miles still left on him which we saw in the Duran fight.

It shouldnt have been asking too much for him to handle Terry as the odds would suggest. But as I strongly suggested, Ray Leonard falls apart rather quickly aginst the younger faster oppsition and could never hold his own with the likes of Nunn or Jackson which, is why he stayed away from them and away from a young Hagler.

I also see a glaring lack of defenses on his resume-he has only 4 to his credit which is much less than most other champions

As a result, he was rightfully dropped to the #51 spot

Leonard was ring rusty. He had no momentum going into the fight. He was even dropped by a journeyman three years before.

Another excuse to cover up for another embarrasing loss in order to defend the overrated media star. What else is new.

No one was asking for Ali to tackle Berbick or Holmes. I heard of no such warnings of danger for Leonard to stay away from Norris.

The fact is, you couldnt find one expert or even fan that even had to think about who was going to win this one. :nono

And since this WAS the case and Leonard lost the way he did to someone he was supposed to beat, this just adds fuel to the fire that he was overrated and should be dropped accordingly.

I presume you have nothing further to add?

Too bad I've never seen anyone that mentioned it BEFORE the fight. Otherwise I'd believe you. :smoke

Hagler was shot against Leonard, but Ray was prime against Norris.

The same goes for Hagler before he fought Leonard. What's your point?

Apparently it did, seeing as he was at least a 3-1 favorite.

Since I was around at the time I would know. Many people I talked to were picking Ray and many celebs as well as sports columnists and fighters themselves (Thomas Hearns for instance)

No one showed up to se a slaughter :smoke

It was different with Norris. You couldnt find one person to go against the grain. And why would they? :smoke

Your reasoning for saying Leonard was not shot is because nobody announced it before the fight?

    Watch the footage!

Watch the footage? I watched the carnage as it happened. I waited two months to watch this fight.

for your information, Leonard wasnt shot,, he was outclassed. There is a difference but most people get confused, especially when it happens as they least expect it.

No, the reason for this mismatch came about mostly because Mr. Norris was able to strike quickly with sharp accurate blows that Leoanrd could not brace for as he had done with other much slower opponents.

Since Mr. Norris, the man in my avatar, was able to quickly hurt leonard, it developed into a route and was simply too much for leonard to handle; the speed, the swiftness of foot, the mobility, the ability to deflect counters with the gloves, ability to slip and ride with shots.

So well prepared was Norris for his opponent that I could scarcely find a round to give to the great Leonard. And to think, nobody gave him a shot at winning.

    Except myself of course. :smoke
