what about a simple clash of the heads, technical draw?? Then what happens? How's the point system work there? So yea, way too many what if's. HBO couldn't even get guys like Katsidis and Escobedo back in the ring after they won in April.

He doesn't have much of a choice these days. Taylor can't even draw regionally anymore as the Spinks vs Taylor fight was such a laugher that HBO jumped ship pretty much then and there.

And if two guys drop out, the simplest thing to do is to simply turn it into a standard semi-finals tournament. If three drop out, you plug n play along the way basically.

SMW is deep enough that if guys fall out, you just plug in the right pieces.

Honestly that's more on Katsidis than anyone else. GBP and HBO had Katsidis/Escobedo and Juan Diaz vs Malignaggi all lined up and then Katsidis said he was above that fight and there ya go.

Katisidis is chasing a Hatton fight, something he has a minute chance of getting.

so, it becomes a bogus, bull**** tournament that means nothing then. Two of the opening round losers might have to face each other in the finals, to win the tournament.

that's what i'm saying. Showtime can hype this dream concept, but they won't have written contracts committing anything beyond one fight, though. So why bother? Just do it one fight at a time. Then you don't have to make excuses. I don't blame Katsidis either, for anyone that thought Lightweight Lightning was some kind of a tournament must not have understood Valero was with the competition, Top Rank.

I'll believe it when I see it. You see some top ranked guys that could end up with two quick losses. They way promoters are now days in protecting fighters, I just don't see this working out among the top guys unless they are getting big bucks.

It sounds good, but I'll believe it's on when Showtime officially says it's on.

yeah I recall that last SMW Tourney that Showtime hosted with Jean Paul Mendy fighting Anthony Hanshaw in the finals .. too bad it ended in a draw.

hopefully this proposed Tournament can come off in some form or another as having 5 fighters in a round robin style tourney might be easier said than done

plus with rival promoters only add to the difficulty.

but im all for this coming off in one form or another.

    :good

Its all hype and I wonder if those fighters know anything about it...There are two major problems in this...One your not going to get fighters to committ to that kind of long term plan, two what if one fighter gets hurt, which I promise will happen, three if your going to do it why not make it a tourn, who the **** cares about a point system??? BCS anyone???

Another thiing it would be to hard to generate the kinds of monies that the fighters would want to take those kinds of risks, Ward and Dirrell arent going to fight right now, its not enough money or a title in it for them to risk fighting each other.

BTW isnt Ward an HBO fighter??? I think so:huh

Even Dirrell is more Showtime than HBO. His last fight on HBO was when he stunk up the universe against Curtis Stevens. He's been on Showtime I think 4 of the last 5 times. Kid is really good too. HBO's loss.
