Just a funny note...I always laugh when certain posters talk about size...size does not mean anything...Chambers at 6 1/2 208 beat 6"7 253 Dementrenko....Guys make me laugh when they say JJwalcott was too small to beat these giants. One thing I must say about the Klitschko's is that they are always in shape....Enough of the Fat boy 80's syndrome, I have seen the Tubbs, Witherspoon with tits, Page, Bowe and honestly was not impressed now we have Peter (who could lose 45 lbs) Areola same thing, Shannon Briggs LOL...Chambers dropped 15 lbs from his last fight and beat a man 45 lbs heavier and 6 + inches bigger.....I am not saying that Alex was not in shape just that because a guy is a heay, that he has too take on extra weight to beat a big man is Bull. If James Toney would have stayed at 206, he would have had a lot better success in the division and James if 5"9...why did he blow up his ass and stomach with extra luggage when his natural fit weight was 30 lbs lighter.......Well JJWalcott......Thats a win for you....Now learn something from this Eddie, you had late power, something you did not have in any of your recent fights and you fizzled vs Povetkin...extra weight only slows you down....Forget size get in shape and get in there and fight your fight and do not bring in extra cargo...it does not help
Good post. This fight is a true example that size means nothing and I hope it's a lesson for anyone who thinks size means everything.
He was stopped by 2 of the best punchers ever but also had them down and he took an lot of big shots before the 6 punch combo by Louis and the great right hand Bomb by Marciano...How many men went the full distance with Marciano or Louis and Walcott survived many other big punchers. His chin was good.
There is a BIG difference between Big Fat Heavyweights and Big well condition Heavyweights. Size isn't everything, BUT it does help when your Big and in shape as well. Also, some Heavyweights look fat BUT are in pretty good fighting shape. It's not a body building contest.
Yup. How can a supposed fan of his be unaware of how many times he was stopped? He also wasn't just stopped by Marciano, he was nearly killed. Ezzard Charles went 15 rounds with Rocky.
Tell me who was fat and in pretty good fighing shape that would have not been better if they were fit. I know its not a body contest but Sam Peter is fat...Chambers was fat...Chris Areola is fat. Lennox and the Klitscko are big men that are fit...Primo Carnera was Fit...Buddy Baer was fit...
You have a thing against Marciano...Levi Forte went the distance with Foreman....So did Peralta first fight...Jimmy Young beat him...Marovic went the distance with Lewis and so did the KOable Levi Billups and Ossie Ocasio...You can not KO everyone and Ted Lowry went the distance with a lot of good fighters...why was he stoppable like Billups or Forte....There is something with you and Marciano...why focus on that...Ted Lowry was a tough journyman and surviver...look at his record. He was not a guy that was easily KO'd
2 of them were by Marciano and one was by Louis...so that leaves 3 and we all know Walcott worked and trained early on in his career and was not always properly fed
Some bodies just don't get as ripped as others. Sam Langford looked heavy at times during his prime, BUT he was always in shape. Later on he wasn't. Even Foreman looked heavy during his comeback, BUT he was in shape as well.
Peralta and Young going the distance was more of a style-thing. They were hard fighters to nail cleanly.
I'm good friends with Marciano's brother. I was the one that they asked to MC the unveiling of the Rocky Marciano Stamp. In fact I was with Lou Marciano a couple of weeks ago. You asked who "How many men went the full distance with Marciano or Louis" I gave you the answer and you get upset. Also, Walcott wasn't under fed at the time he fought Simon. He weighed 192 pounds for that bout.
