    Semantics.

But I was monumentally impressed by his win against Hopkins. His vast talent had been demonstrated before, but it was his tactical prowess that I was pleased with.

If going by 100 his unbeaten record even if it is not impressive is a feat. Plus you have to take into account he was fighting in a weak division for a while which is not really his fault. The Lacy and Kessler wins were his best wins. You guys can talk up Hopkins but that fight just made me realize he was not on that extra level as them. He was the fresher fighter with more gas in the tank that is all. Hopkins/Pavlik dont have **** to do with Hopkins that fought Calzaghe............Winky..............Jermaine Taylor.....so on and so forth. Hopkins was fighting ugly dirty low output fights against all these guys not just Calzaghe. He showed some spunk in Tarver and Pavlik fights only where he was on point. Thats what happens when you are in your 40s you are not guaranteed to be at your best every night.

World 'ATG' boxer? Absolutely not. Much as I would want to venerate a fighter from my era, Joe Calzaghe did not have the kind of ability, resume, or in-the-ring performances to come close to world 'ATG' consideration. No chance whatsoever. Calzaghe was an amazing competitor, his will to win was purely remarkable by any standard. For that reason alone I'll always appreciate the guy.

im known as a Calzaghe HATER...but that is not true.

JOE is a definate HOF...but when idiots talk about him being a Legend u have to completey discount him in that Catogery.

A minor world title...in a very very weak division.

Beating 2 PAst prime ATG doesnt make him ATG..

He goes in the HOF bracket with Orlando Canizales, Terry Norris,Comacho etc that calibre..

Teryy Norris beat Ray Leanord....that doesnt make him Ray Leanord.

Top class fighter but not even top 10 from past 15 years.

u have to rate the following above him:

    Mayweather
    Jones
    Oscar
    Pacman
    Marquez
    Barrera
    Morales
    Mosley
    Hopkins
    Toney`
    Trinidad
    Holyfield
    Lewis

Also NOTE CALZAGHE was only recognized a P4P top ten fighter for A PALTRY 3 YEARS!!!!!

that is hardly ATG worthy, he wasnt even considered a top champion till he faced LACY.

you need to be an elite fighter for more than 3 YEARS to be considered ATG

Saying Joe Calzaghe is a ATG is very direspectful to all the "TRUE" ATGS who worked their ass off and beaten"GREAT"fighters in their"PRIME",Joe Calzaghe shouldent be mentioned in the same sentence as a Bernard Hopkins,Roy Jones Jr,Sugar Ray Leonard,Sugar Ray Robinson,Julian Jackson,or Muhhamed Ali,u see those are True great fighters,to me Joe Calzaghe dont even make the top 200!!! Mikkel kessler and Jeff lacy are bums themselves who hasnt beaten no great fighters just like Joe himself,so i dismiss those wins!! I dont care what nobody says cuz evrybody likes 2 use this as an excuse,Joe Calzaghe "WAS" in his prime when he fought Bernard Hopkins, and he struggled and really "LOST" to a past prime 43 year old B-hop,evryone says it!! so i dismiss that win as well, and then he went on to beat A badly shot Roy Jones who still manage to hurt and drop Joe in the very 1st rd{That tells you right there what would have happened if Roy was in his Prime}If Roy was in his prime he would have easily finish him off right there!!!....So basically when i look at Joes career all i see is a win over a badly washed up Roy Jones......im sorry to say but Joe Calzaghe is nothin close to a great and really is the most OVERRATED OVERHYPED FRAUD in the history of boxing!!! his fans really need to stop lying to themsleves

I'd put him in the 50.

He has one of the highest percentage of title fights vs actual fights. He is undefeated despite having over 25 title fights in his career, he has faced some of the legendary names despite being near the same age as theirs, he tried to get them interested earlier but he wasn't the name.

He broke several generations of boxers, too. Reid after his disputed loss was easily defeated by Calzaghe, Woodhall, Sheika in the same era, then he cleaned up Veit and a couple of others a generation later, then he cleaned out Lacy, Bika and Kessler.

It's only really idiots who don't like the fact he isn't American that have a problem rating him as highly. Funnily enough, a Canadian game developer judged him to be at the same level as Roy Jones Jr in the game, a higher level than Manny Pac and several others in the game.

    Not even close.

On skill/talent/athleticism and not his "0" he sits between 150-200.

On the other hand, if your yardstick suggests Sven Ottke is an ATG then so is Joe.

Sven Ottke had decisions gifted to him that he shouldn't have had and refused to unify the titles, despite Calzaghe beckoning him too.

Also, Ottke faced no where near as dangerous a challenger as Calzaghe, as evidenced in him taking Mundine 10 fights into his boxing career.

If I were to make a Top 100 of all time I think I would have a great struggle in finding 100 better fighters then him.

To be one of the 100 best of all time in any sport has to constitute an ATG tag IMO, its a truly remarkable acheivement

He is quite obviously an ATG, that is a nothing achievement for him.

I would consider Calzaghe a super-legend like Robinson and Duran. His record and abilties were on that kind of level.

    (1) What does that even mean, honestly. Robin Reid gave Calzaghe probably his hardest fight, and Joe was pretty lucky to come out of it with a win.

    (2) Not true.:deal

    (3) Oh well, that settles it then. :rofl
