Someone using your account? You give Joe - JOE CALZAGHE - a slight edge over Michael Moorer? Joe, who has basically never fought anyone at LHW, is in a discussion with Michael Moorer. That is f*cking laughable. Hop fought a 38 year old worn out Tarver (so he also didn't fight anyone in their prime at LHW). Joe fought a 43-year old Hop. Then Joe fought a 40-year old worn out RJJ. In both cases these 40+ year olds dropped him on his ass because he can't avoid the right hand and never could (which is why he was never thrown into the mix with a talented athlete while they were in their prime). Neither BHOP or Joe Calzaghe has done **** at LHW. The only thing that comes out of these fights is that an old BHOP is twice as skilled as JC and would have schooled, punished, and destroyed him if this were the late 90s rather than 2008. But, when old guys ONLY fight other old guys it has to be asked if this is really giving a clear picture of anything. Joe Calzaghe has done nothing to be in any conversation at LHW with anyone (unless you are talking 2nd/3rd rate LHWs ala Clinton Woods). Come on man, "I would give Joe a slight edge" ... lol. Joe has struggled with pedestrian guys like Salem, Starie, & Reid among countless others.
Julian Jackson was at his best as a junior middleweight. He'd be jumping two divisions to face a guy with a chin 5x than the best guy he ever faced, the (small) 154 lb. Terry Norris. Peak Jones and Hopkins beat peak Calzaghe IMO by decisions, although I don't see dominant destructions in either. McClellan would have his hands full with Calzaghe, especially the later version of G-Man who wasn't with Steward and was becoming increasingly sloppy and flawed technically.
I definitely appreciate that Calzaghe lost a vast percentage of his power because of his well documented hand problems. However, I think many boxing fans underappreciate Calzaghe's ability to change himself as a boxer. I am not aware of many boxers that have ever shown themselves capable of changing their fighting style so completely and still remaining effective. All-time great. Less, perhaps, than he could have been with a better resume (whether or not this is his fault, other greats are equally at fault for their similarly weak resumes). Moreso because of his sheer determination to continue winning - even without the KO punch that is mandatory for so many fight fans. Even if he does punch like a featherweight, he still throws more than anyone else I can remember and I prefer that to a Mayweather any day of the week.
