Break these ones down for me. Lets say the Calzaghe of the Lacy fight against:

    (1) The Benn of the McClellan bout.

    (2) The Eubank of the Rocchigiani bout.

    (3) The Steve Collins of the Eubank I bout.

How do you see these fights going?

Obviously the fights would be different, given the styles involved, but how would you see the fighters mentioned dealing with Calzaghe at SMW at that time in their careers?

I think 3) is an easy call, not that Collins wasn't a very good fighter but I think Calzaghe would outbox him fairly comfortably.

Number 1) is a real ****er to pick but Benn says he would have lost to JC (I think???) so that will do for me but for number 2 a (admittedly young) Calzaghe had enough problems with an old Eubank to make me think Eubank would have got the win.

cant be arseed breaking it down for you but i might later

    1) can be a tough fight has Calzaghe dosent have the power to hurt Benn and Benn could catch Calzaghe and drop him. Benn was highly motivated and worked hard so it would be tough and ugly but a great fight. But i think Calzaghes better skills and workrate gives him a close UD but he has to get up to win.

    2) I think Eubank aint that bad for him just the same as their bout but at a higher pace and no 1st round KD.

    3) Calzaghe out works and outboxes him for a fairly clear UD but competitive.

i think he'd beat collins fairly easily but its fair to say eubank and benn were better then any one calzaghe ever fought and both those 2 fights would be hard to call,

    Calzaghe wins all three.

  7. A prime Eubank stops Joe

I think he would beat Benn and Steve...... although the Benn fight would be close

    Calzaghe UD Benn

    Calzaghe UD Eubank

    Calzaghe UD Collins

I think the Eubank fight would be Calzaghes toughest but i think Joes workrate would see him through.

Also i think the Benn fight would be a tough one but Joe would need to have a plan B.

benns come forward gun ho style would have been perfect for joe i reckon a ud or a very late stoppage.

a prime eubank woul have troubled joe greatly it would be close maybe even a sd but i reckon joe would do enough

collins was durable enough to last 12 rounds but not talented enough to get near him

A prime eubank of '94 brutally KO's Joe

Calzaghe gets a wide UD over benn and collins imo

H2H i'd only pick him with any certainty against Collins. Lets remember we're comparing skills not resumes. I'd favour him over Eubank primarily due to his workrate but he'd have to really work for the win.... He was all over the place in the final seconds of their bout and had that come earlier he might have been finished. I think the Benn that beat Mclellon was an incredible fighting machine and would have had enough to trouble roy jones jnr in his prime therefore I feel Benn would win this handily.

I see Benn be the hardest test out of all 3. I think Calzaghe's workrate and speed would be way too much for even a prime Eubank and Collins. The sheer bombs away caution to the wind aggression of Benn though is unlike anything Calzaghe has faced so would be a real test and could end in an eraly to mid round stoppage.

Calzaghe stamina against Eubanks wasn't what it was more recently.

He dominated Eubanks till he tired a little.

The question you've got to ask yourself when comparing these fighters head to head is how does the Benn that beat Mclellon do against Lacy, the old Eubank, the old Jones jnr and both Hopkins and Kessler. I think he beats them all more impressively. Lacy could have proved difficult for Benn but if he fought the one who stood still like a giant muscle bag then Benn would have KO'd him.

I feel that a lot of people have been taken in by this unbeaten streak. He was a great fighter but head to head he is not far infront of the Eubanks and Benns of this world but he was far more consistant. H2h consistancy means nothing. We're looking at the best of one guy fighting the best of another and I don't see Calzaghe ahead of Benn or Eubank in talent.

Calzaghe was floored by Hopkins, Jones, Salem and Mitchell- granted he got up to win but he wasn't impervious and even an old weight drained Eubank had him in trouble. Benn, Jones Jnr and maybe even a prime Eubank would have finished him if he found himself in that kind of trouble.

  15. That was a shot Eubank
