Calzaghe's 37 and retired. If he has a brain, which he appears to have, he'll stay retired. He has nothing left to prove.
This tournament is the best thing to happen to boxing in a long time. If it comes off, Sauerland, who proposed the idea and got the ball rolling, really deserves huge appreciation. I don't know whether the format is perfect, but I don't care. The fact that all of these guys will actually be fighting each other, and all within a few months, is tremendous.

You think it's a bad thing if all the top guys in a division face each other becuase then we might find out who the true champion is? :patsch

No. Read my post. I'll be surprised if the promoters buy into this the way they protect their guys now days. Taylor? I can see him as a cash out. Guaranteed a few more big fights and gone. I don't think he even cares if he wins. But what about AA and the the two younger prospects? AA stands to lose big if he doesn't do well. The Andre's stand to lose big too if they don't do well. They have a lot of future potential, but are they really ready to step it up now?

I think you are right about Taylor but I have a hard time believing he could really fight AA, Ward, and Kessler within a 13 month period after the beatings he's already endured. It could get very ugly and really irresponsible. But, if he's guaranteed the payday for making the three fights, he may just take a knee a lot sooner in fight 1 or 2 than he otherwise would have.

That's why, while it looks all nice and shiny on paper, when the first couple fights happen, it will become apparent that things will not go off as planned.

I think his point is that Dawson had 'talked' about going down to 168. Is Dawson's promoter involved in this? I think Golden Boy and Top Rank are on the outside of this one? Is this perhaps the beginning of a new 'cartel'?

This would be great news for Paul Williams. It would pretty much mandate a match with Pavlik.

Big time ****ing props for kid Sauerland to get it this far. That's the kind of outside the box thinking we need to see out of the next generation of promoters.

It'd be the best thing that ever happened to him to enter this tourney even if it means dropping his belt. Perhaps more than any other fighter on here, he needs the validation of fighting and beating the top names. Ward and Dirrell are still young enough to do that afterwards. This is probably Kessler's last stand, along with Jermain Taylor's.

You are right about that and so are everyone on this forum. The general public however, sponsors and promoters would disagree.
