the only defeat we have of a LW Duran is the DeJesus fight and DeJesus wasnt negative and did not run, but used angles to land good hooks and power shots. Is that the way to do it and im sure Laguina can do that also
I don't think Arguello is strong enough at the weight to cope with Duran. Duran would break him down to the body I think before Arguello can land anything to knock Duran out. There's very little chance that Arguello can win a decision against Duran. Laguna would do a good job of bobbing left to right and in and out and landing shots just like Marcel did, but eventually Duran would get to him and hurt him. He stays in range too much as I said, to survive the 15 rounds against Duran. I think to beat Duran you can't just try and make him miss, you need to spend time outside the range where you have time to recuperate from his blows. Suble shifts in movement to make a man miss won't be enough, you'll need wheels to circle the ring quite a bit becuase if you are in range Duran WILL find you, no matter how good you are defensively. Laguna wasn't really the type of mover to be out of range long.
Bizarro basically ran around the ring, but did very little offensively. He did however survive for longer than most by running. A better example would be the Edwin Viruet fights. Viruet caused Duran some problems with his lateral movement and good defense, and he was able to land occasionally too, especially in the first fight. It would be a fighter like Viruet, with better offensive and defensive ability that could have the best chance of getting the job done, as far as boxers go.
Yeah Laguna can do a job like that, but the problem is DeJesus got clobbered pretty comprehensively when Duran showed up in good shape in the second and third fights, though I think DeJesus was starting to slow down by their third encounter and was past his own best.
But Laguna had the ability to get out side of range. The way he fought Ortiz he fought to a strict gameplan in the first fight. Would he not be able todo that against Duran Yes DeJesus did get clobbered in rematches but he did beat Duran so we know Duran could be beaten. what has out slugging Elorde got to do with Duran. And you probably never even seen Laguna so **** off
I don't think that Laguna was as reilient as or hit as hard as Ken Buchanan, and wouldn't have fared very well against a '72 vintage Duran. I think Duran would have stopped him by round 12.
intresting Flea. Reasons? i havent saw alot of Ortiz but from what i have seen i think Duran would beat him IMO. I dont think alot of people can beat Duran at LW so im throwing out names and anaylising it
Ortiz was very, very strong and tough, and could give what he got on the inside. Duran has the clear edge in power, but I feel Ortiz would stifle some of Ruberto's workrate whilst on the inside and use hs superior ring smarts to win just enough rounds. There is the chance of course that Duran wins both battles (inside and outside) and in that case I'd give Duran the decision nod. I don't think either guy gets stopped here.
i agree with the end. It is an intriguing match up. But from what i have seen Orti didnt have the defence of Duran also he had a great jab but Duran takes away a jab quite well
One of the reasons I make this fight 50-50. Duran was also good defensively. I feel Ortiz had a very, very good jab though but so did Buchanan and Duran was overwhelming him throughout their fight.
