I've heard he had headaches and dizziness in training before the Benn and Jackson fights.

He certainly looked more troubled by Benn's punches even from the get go.

Could be, and most likely there was a prexisting condition. Its ashame, he was the Mike Tyson of the middleweight division, he went for the kill against everyone.

I have read that what happened could have happened in the Jackson rematch if it went rounds or with Benn or after, depending on the punishmnet he took.

Apparently his good chin didn't help him, quite the opposite.

Tragic story, for his sake it would havebeen better if he didn't wake up from the coma.

He probably did have some sort of predisposition entering the fight with Benn but I am sure Benn's megaton bombs were main cause for that tragic injury.

What I meant is he could have had the injury happen with Jackson if the fight went more rounds.

I'm saying the fact that it happened with Benn is a fluke, could have happened anytime.

Of course it's possible but if it was the case he'd had it from day 1, he'd never suffered any damage till he fought Benn.

Don King was lining up the unification superfight with Roy Jones & Benn was in the way, McClennan & many other's totally underestimated/dismissed Benn as a threat which was absolute lunacy as Benn was a death fighter, rumour has it that gerald never even bothered 2 train that much 4 the fight as he considered it a 1/2 round job max.

After Benn got back into the ring after being knocked through the ropes in the 1st he tore into McClennan non-stop, thats what Benn was all about, the shock on McClennan's face was 4 all 2 see.

Benn was never the same after that fight nor would any body else be, it was the most brutal fight ov the 90's:yep

Over here in the UK we had all the anti-boxing lesbian/gayboy paramilitary's out in force demanding boxing be banned from mainstream TV, the've got there way:verysad

There's rumours now that he was having problems before the fight making weight and also being affected by punches. Also the punishment he took from previous fights didn't help either. I heard the weight loss for Benn was quite heavy because really he was a light heavy and he was draining down for years to Middle and most people now say he should of gone straight to light heavy.

Almost finished Benn in the first.

I know he was big 4 a middleweight but at S/middle he looked fine, but yer can't tell, not if he'd blown up, unfortunatly i recken it's a combo ov weight & fatally underestimating Benn.

Benn's manager Frank Warren who was in bed with King at the time looked crushed that benn had won, nigel's words straight after the fight were "THEY SENT HIM OVER HERE 2 BASH ME UP"

I watched this fight a few weeks back & was suprised at how Mcclennan slowed right down after the 4th, he was gassed out.

    Yes.

The cruelty he did he animals could only be done by someone who had serious brain problems.

that fight would've been over in the 1st like he predicted if it werent for the shitty ref

he predicted the fighter right, he just did'nt expect such an incompetent and biased referee

He didn't gass out man,or at least not normally.

By the second round when Benn got into the fight, when he landed the punches had a strange, more strong effect on McClellan.By the 5th he was blinking and keeping his mouthpiece halfway out.

And that headbutt in the 9th really didn't help,in fact it probably led to some major problems.

    Ugh.

Not you false PETA members again.

The accumulation of huge punches caused Gerald's injury and not the grazing head butt that you are referring to and some people like to believe.

Agreed:yep The ref saved Nigels arse with the long count, It was common knowlege over here that the ref was terrified off a ring invasion had he halted it in the 1st & it would have happended GAURANTEED:smoke

Unfortunatly we have a shocking track record in the UK ov rioting at boxing/football matches:nut
