Wlad's going to harpoon him. Consenus number one heavyweight in the world with Steward of all people behind him, against a untested cruiserweight who's proven nothing at this weight and even in his best weight class didn't do anything particularly memorable. Hmm.
Supposedly this fight is in the works to happen in September. I would like to know who you pick in this fight and why. I say Haye UD, because Vitali is not what he used and has slowed down considerably. It will be interseting how he handles Haye's awkward style and speed. Also look for how Haye handles the power of Vitali when he tastes it.
I prefer Haye's chances against the more talented brother Wlad ,as I believe he has less durability and can panic under pressure, but Haye has a puncher's chance ,and will at least come to win as opposed to simply survive ,as we saw in the dreary Chagaev Wlad sparring session.
I have a difficult time picking a winner in this matchup, because we have two guys who both leave a lot of questions to be answered. Vitali is nearly 38 years of age, and has fought only twice in some 5 years. I don't know if his performances against Peter and Gomez are enough to accurately indicate what he has left. As for Haye, I certainly think that he can be a force, but I just haven't seen enough of him at heavyweight to know what he'd do against a very large, hard punching opponent with a solid chin..
I think Haye has a greater shot against Vitali than Wlad, because Vitali is a lesser puncher, worse boxer with a more open defense and getting a bit old now. Haye should be quite a bit faster and this should mean he lands his best power shots on Vitali. Then again Haye can have problems with jabbers, can have an open defense and can telegraph his shots. But he does usually do very well against taller opponents (Enzo/Gurov) I fancy Haye in this 1
You must be suffering from blind patriotism. You think Haye is going to win? If you ask me, Vitali already has Haye afraid of him when they meet in person. Haye has a leaky defense, and average chin at best. Haye doing well vs taller opponents ( Enzo or Gurov ) means nothing here, as Vitali is much taller and heavier. Age is the only question mark for Vitali because he will be 38 if this fight comes off. However, Vitali did not look like an older fighter in his last two outings. Gomez was pretty quick, well schooled on defense and a southpaw. He could not avoid Vitali's shots. If the fight comes off, I believe Vitali is going to win inside five rounds. I would not be surprised at all if this one ended in two rounds. I'd rather Vitali fight Valuev...assuming Valuev and the WBA will take the fight. Vitali vs. Valuev would be a title unification match, and likely mean more for Vitali's resume down the road.
I think Vitali will stop him but I am rooting for Haye. Vitali appears to have slowed but his punch resistance will probably last long enough for him to land something, nay ANYTHING on Haye. Haye goes down.
Many fighters words full of **** and vinegar. Then we see them take a hard shot in the ring, and they quickly change tactics. The shot Wlad hit Chagaev with in round two would have either lead to the KO or TKO of Haye shortly after it landed. If Haye can surivie such a shot as a heavyweight, and try to win when he's out matched, then and only then will I believe he's going to risk getting his head taken off to win.
I don't agree with the orthodoxy that Haye has more chance against Wlad than Vitally because the latter is more durable. Father time is going to catch up with Vitally verry soon. Just maybe it has started already and his recent oponents have not been able to reveal it. Haye is going to bring more speed, firepower and ring inteligence than Vitallys previous two oponents and it is going to throw him off his preferred gameplan. Of course there are still unanswered questions about Haye (durability) but I predict that this will be a lot more exciting than Vitally's previous two fights.
Chambers is one of the of up and coming heavyweights. A fatter and less motivated Sam Peter took a few rounds from Chambers, yet same Peter who was more motivated and in better shape took zero rounds from Vitali. I think Vitali looked outstanding vs Sam Peter, and did a pretty good job vs a good boxer / defensive minded southpaw opponent in Gomez. Gomez only one one round of nine. I think Gomez is a better boxer than Haye. I also think Peter takes a better shot than Haye. So how exactly is Haye going to test Vitali? Outside of landing the perfect shot, I think Haye's chances are slim. Even at age 37, Vitali had an easy time vs two top ten opponents winning 16 of 17 rounds. An " old " fighter does not clean out top ten fighters with ease. Vitlai may be 38 in July, but he looks like he's 34 or 35 in the ring to me.
I favor Haye against Vitali, Wlad against Haye. Vitali's movement is utter **** at this point, brace and all if I'm remembering correctly. Why do you think he was so up for fighting the plodder Samuel Peter and a fat CW? They were both very good wins but they were chosen for a reason. Haye can and will move. I just feel he's going to be in and out, in and out and land massive shots. Vitali isn't particularly defensively skilled, more of a giant octopus who ties you up or leans back from punches. Haye's too fast for that.
Actually chambers was a very out of shape 225lb vs Peter...close to 20lb overweight. The chambers who fought at 209lb the other night is a different better fighter. I agree with Powerpuncher in this thread. Vitali is old and slow...his defense is leaky...Haye is going to be able to tee his shots off on Vitali. Vitali does not tolerate pain well. lets see what happens. GO HAYE!!!!
