Call yourself world champions when you dont even want to fight outside your country

When I watch old tapes of Muhammad Ali flying all over the world to fight guys in their own country and win or lose, he would fight them and not just stay in America like 90 % of these so called American World champions.

I dont see the point in calling yourself a world champion when you sit at home in your own country **** scared to fly to UK or Europe or wherever they need to fly to fight others from across the pond.

Some of these past and present so called world champions who never flew could be listed but I will leave that down to you to identify these fighters.

I know it works both ways but what made me write this thread was after watching Carl Froch fly all the way to America to put his undefeated record on the line and even on the brink of a loss he managed to pull out a win against one of America's best

You can only respect that and if you dont then your very hard to please.
That is what a real champion is in my eyes.

 

Where you fight is no where near as important as who you fight. If you fight the best from around the world you are the world champion doesn't matter if you fight them all in your local high school gym

 

to be fair, ali HAD to fight all over the world due to political pressure

That is what always gets me Ali who is one of THE greatest of all time was not too good to fight internationally yet we have fighters like Roy Jones who think they are too good to travel to fight.

If Ali was not "too good" to have to travel then neither is a Glass Jawed fraud like Roy Jones Jr.

its simple if you knock out who your fighting than it doesn't matter where you are.

 

thats not true. Fighting in front of your fans with the support of the crowd can be a major boost.

 

and not fightining in front of your fans and having them boo you gives you added motivation to prove them all wrong...like i said knock out whoever is in front of you and it doesn't matter where you are because than you don't have to rely on the judges.

 

A true professional should be able to look past the crowd. Not to mention that hometown crowds can also be a distraction and a disadvantage just look at Cotto vs Corley. Cotto almost lost that fight because he let the crowed get in his head.

 

I think you're missing the point: fighters fight where the money is. I have no qualms or bitterness in me when I say America, and in particular Las Vegas, amounts to the boxing capital of the world.

 

Most fighters fight where the money is. For popular Europeans its in big Football stadiums, for popular Americans its in Vegas casinos.
