Youtube tell me the video is still being processes and the quality may improve, but the quality always comes out less impressively than the original copy. Still viewable tho.

What a gruelling battle.

 

See how Castillo was enjoying some success on the offensive for most of the first half of the fight, then at the end of round 9 it looked like Ortiz might have hurt his opponent, then when they came out for the tenth the balance in aggression seemed to have switched to a scenario where Ortiz was leading and Castillo reluctant to get stuck right in like he had done earlier in the bout. I reckon Ortiz knew then that he had him.

What I like about Manuel Ortiz is how calm he is. Doesn't let a punch to the jaw phase him at all, and is willing to take one to give one, knowing that eventually he will get on top of his opponent.

 

Yeah he was so willing to endure a war of attrition it was bizzarre. And quite a patient technician in the trenches there also, with the very short blows. Not sure of how hard a hitter his opponent was, but he showed durabliity for me in them clips.

 

That fight was an inside masterclass by both men. Ortiz really seemed to be a versatile fighter. I got the impression he was merely obliging to fight that type of fight with Castillo, and that he would've been able to hold his own against a variety of different styles. He certainly showed that he had the stuff in the mid to close range game. Excellent use of feints, counters, bolo style uppercuts, and crafty in-fighting.

Ortiz vs Jofre, anyone?
