If he beats Prescott. Don't get me wrong, I will be mightily impressed if he beats Koltenik, but that one defeat has to be avenged. Even if he can't get back down to Lightweight (I personally think he could) Prescott is certainly big enough to be LWW. Assuming he beats Koltenik, I would be completely won over if Khan made a few defences (no need to rush) and then faced Prescott. He doesn't deserve the silly money fights until he has overcome that big Colombian! Right now I'm a bit of a hater, but I'm also fair. Fellow haters agree?
Beating Kotelnik will put him pretty much in the same boat as Darchinyan - one signature world-class win, and one signature world-class loss. Vic certainly doesn't struggle much for respect. :deal A win right now would legitimize the kid in a big way. All who said he'd fall on his face at any step up in class would have to eat crow.
Would those who can't give respect until he beats Prescott also say that undefeated records need to be protected at all costs? If a defeat is such a big deal that it requires vengeance despite other world class wins then that's what it suggests to me that no risks should be taken (even though Prescott was done so unwittingly) I'd have thought that most people on here think that over protecting fighters so there 0 doesn't go was bad for their development and bad for the sport.
:goodI wouldn't say you're a hater- you just have an opinion like everyone else on this forum and you've presented it in a logical way as opposed to just attacked someone for the sake of it. You come across as someone who is justifiably critical as opposed to a 'hater' my friend; if you wanna see a real set of them just go to the general! That said, you raise a valid point. I think he'll get the fight as both he and Roach have already said that they want it some time in the future- the only stumbling block is Warren. I think Khan would deserve an immense ammount of respect if he were to step in the ring again with Prescott, let alone beat him. I wanna see if he can beat Kotelnik first, though.
I'm more in this camp , but he does at some point have to go back and face Prescott again. If it had just been a bad style match up or something he could be forgiven for giving him a rubber but to get blasted out the way he did , he needs to face that demon some time. But if he beats Kotelnik I'll certainly be giving him the respect due !
Bernard Hopkins will not get my respect until he beats RJJ And I will only give Manny respect if he fights Torrecampo again
Although I kind of agree with you neither man was seperated form his senses in less than a minute even for Amir's self belief I think he needs to face him again. I mean how much balls would it show to win the title ( hopefully ) then turn round and offer Prescott a voulantary at it ? People would have to respect that !
So sat if Khan beats Kotelnik, then Bradley, then Hatton, then JMM. He would not have your respect because he lost to Prescptt? He doesn't HAVE to beat Prescott, but it would be nice. Regardless of that hes already got my respect with the way hes conducted himself after the Prescott loss....nothing but respect for the lad.
Solid :good Im sure Khan wants to as much as anyone, EVEN if his handlers dont. Sometimes and more so now it just aint practical with Networks etc thrown in. "Right now I'm a bit of a hater, but I'm also fair." :huh
stop acting as silly as a goose, this is whats wrong with boxing fans today, "i won't respect him until he beats prescott" you mean whatever he goes on to do? even if he beats fighters better then prescott? what sort of an attitude is that, loses happen and are part of the sport just because one fighter may never be able to beat another for whatever reason be it styles, mental edge...like vernon forrest over shane mosley, mayorga over forrest etc it doesn't mean that fighter is a ***** or one can't have respect for him, you should look at the overall picture and not just one fight, what if and it maybe a big IF khan goes on to beat someone like JMM or nate campbell, will you still not fully respect him because he didn't beat prescott? get the heck outta here EDIT: antcull beat me to it
As I've said already I'll be right behind for the Kotelnik fight ( I said so as soon as it was announced ) my only reason for saying i would like him to face Prescott was becasue of the nature of the loss. In no other fight that anyone has mentioned did the guy get sparked so spectacularly. I mean look at Lewis , two guys embarressed him so he went back and did them worse than they had done him ( admittedly hard to do for Khan ) and its what really cemented his legacy. I'm not sayin (like the threadstarter ) that he gets no respect until his does that but I really feel for his legacy ( whatever that may be turn out to be ) and for himself he should go back and get him
