Hughes being not being great may be true, but there's no evidence to suggest Hughes is past his best. IMO Hughes is a much better fighter now then when he was thrown in with Foster, Hunter and Dunne. Yes he's lost a few recently but he's been fighting the likes of Mayhar Monshipour, Jason Booth and(and albeit badly faded) Esham Pickering. It's not that long ago he beat Pickering either and he nearly took him out early in the rematch. I think Nelson is a decent opponent for Paulie at this stage, as I certainly don't share the sentiments of those who thought he'd beat Bouzaine or Munroe at this stage. He's still learning and the Hughes fight would of been a perfect one for him, as it is Nelson is a bit of a step down but it's the best he's going to get on short notice. If they can get Paulie out again quickly they should try and get Hughes again if not look for someone else around that level or just above, and if they think it's needed maybe one more fighting before looking for a European shot late this year or early next year. But I think if would be foolish to rush him into very tough fights right now, his opposition hasn't been amazing but there's no reason to step him up 5 levels straight away to compensate for that. Nelson although pretty poor will be one of the better guys he's faced and if he were to beat Hughes that would be his best win.
Hughes is soft and ripe for the picking IMO. I do agree there is no need to throw him in at the deep end. But lets step it up a little bit. Just one notch would do it. His toughest opponent to date was a past his best Marc Callaghan. And while Hyland won it easily he never really looked like putting a dent in Callaghan. How about Mark Moran as an opponent? He's decent, durable and feather fisted. All the qualities they seem to look for in a Paul Hyland opponent. The one big difference this time would be the fact that he'd be a live opponent who could possibly outbox and outwork Paul Hyland rather than just have Hyland outlast his man for a victory
What is the long term plan For the three Hylands and there pops Promotional company?. Are they looking tv backing?. Are they near to tv backing?, if so is it tv3?. This show looks like its going to be a success with a full house, so is Golden Cobra promotions going to run more large shows like this on a regular basis? Golden Cobra Manangement are going to be a big force on the irish boxing scene, unlike some other promoters in the business for the money, this promotional outfit are purely there for the boxers and irish boxing in general, and as for TV3, they dont seem to be interested in boxing anymore because of the bad turnout at tommy egans promtional sham. "anyone ever wonder why he has had no more shows". But i do Believe all the smaller promoters are going to really give brian peters a run for his money. I think Golden Cobra Management are looking to have about 4 shows a year, and at least 1 more this year probably around october
All these boxers would be fine to fight Paulie, but all have appeared on Sky Sports a few times and there for ask for a lot of money, Sean Hughes was offered the fight and his team Refused point Blank but his stable offered Robert Nelson which Paulie and the team had to accept with just over 2 week away from the event as it is too short notice to offer people fights who may have to make the weight and so on
The problem is Golden Cobra need tv backing, because its only with that backing and the money that comes with it, that you can get the big fights for the brothers. European champs dont come cheap. What can Golden Cobra do if they fail to attain a tv contract.:huh
gool old bebo..... Wats his relationship status, his likes & dislikes and most importantly, wat character from 'friends' is he most like??
well said big ears totaly agree paulie is still learning but who ever the hylands fight bam bam will never be happy nelsons manager is also hughs manager they wouldnt let hughs fight paulie but are letting nelson fight him so they must fancy the job
No T.V company have the money anymore, even rte are having doubts about all of brian peters shows, but golden cobra are hoping that this show is a success especially having on delayed coverage on Setanta Ireland and maybe other T.V Companys will show an interest in future shows, well i think thats the overall plan
Thats as good a plan as any, give one free and hope it whets the appetite and i think it will be a sucess as you have two all irish fights which will draw interest.Thats the way for the smaller promotions to go.Fighters have to stop worrying about the 0 on their record and build up local rivalries and excitment. Tg4 may be an outsider to cover these shows,ok they may not weigh in with Millions of euros but it would help sell promotional space and give our lesser boxers much needed exposure and someone like Sean Mannion to give the cupla focal would be winner.
It shouldn't matter Paddy - the level of brawlers he's facing is poor and he still struggles. If he is half as good as touted he should be disposing of these guys with ease
well hopefully this show can generate alot of interest from T.V companies and other such media bodies and that way when the next show comes around all the media and t.v will say 'Hang on a minute, thier last show was exciting, i wonder whats in store here' and the following show should be even bigger then, Paddys last show in april 2008 was a great show (2 irish titles, helping irish boxing in general) This upcoming show is down the same lines - Helping irish boxing, value for money, a great nights entertainment. so from that it looks like they are going from strenght to strenght already.
dont think its free hyland and co (golden cobra management) are paying for the production plus i think its amazing how they have basicaly fought, managed, and promoted, themselves to this stage with no help from any big promoters and paddy snr gives so much to the amatuers as well real boxing family
Fair Play.........in all honesty i dont think Irish Boxing would be what it is today without guys like Paddy snr...... He puts so much into boxing purely for the sport and sport alone.....if there was another few like him and the work he does for irish boxing (professional & amatuers) What a country this would be.... Several World Champions at professional level Several Olympic gold medalists every 4 years And so on.................:good
