Look at Pavliks two MiddleWeight title defenses, both mandatories. Pavlik has fought his mandatories, he should be ready for a big fight. What did you think of his title defenses and who should he fight next? What did you guys think of the Pavlik vs Lockett fight? Pavlik TKO 9 Marco Antonio Rubio Pavlik TKO 3 Gary Lockett
It is time for Pavlik to fight a top ranked world class MiddleWeight, perhaps someone like Sergio Mora.
I remember listening to Enzo Calzaghe before the Pavlik vs Lockett fight and really thinking Gary had real legitimate chance to pull off the upset. Enzo made a good point that Pavlik is there to be hit and Lockett can punch. But what happend was Lockett was knocked down numerous times and the fight ended early.
Mora's a joke. Anyway Rubio was a decent mando vs a top 10 guy,he just didn't wanna fight. Lockett was **** and unworthy indeed.
In retrospect. But before the fight a lot of people probably thought Pavlik vs Lockett was going to be great fight. Kind of like Pavlik vs Miranda.
Lockett was no barometer for anything, hed gone on record many time's saying he hated boxing and was in it purely for the money.Fighters with this mentality very rarely go into the trenches,Lockett realised pretty early in the fight that he couldn't outbox Pavlik, when he did try to unload he realised his power wasn't going to trouble Pavlik,it was pretty much game over from that point.
The ony reason Lockett was in there is that he was Enzo's fighter. Joe Calzaghe called Pavlik out about 10 minutes after he won the first Taylor fight. Joe continued to call Pavlik out for the next 6-7 months. Joe said point blank that he would not fight Roy Jones, and that he wanted to make the winner of Pavlik/Taylor II his last fight. Kelly beat Taylor a second time, and then destroyed Joe's stablemate and sparring partner. Joe then decided fighting Jones wasn't such a bad idea after all. Pavlik won the world middleweight championship on September 29, 2007. Since then he has fought Jermain Taylor in a contractually obligated rematch, WBO mandatory Gary Lockett, Bernard Hopkins, and WBC mandatory Marco Rubio. He only CHOSE one of those opponents, and that was Bernard ****ing Hopkins!
