Marquez defeated two current titleholders and nothing more. Casamayor was an 'elite' fighter but at this point in his career he is no longer performing like an 'elite' fighter. Diaz is a solid champion but it is a stretch to call him elite when his career does not indicate it.

In both of these match-ups Marquez struggled before getting the late KO (especially in the Diaz bout). These fights do not strengthen the arguement that Marquez is in his prime or even moving up in weight well. They only show his determination to stay competitive against all odds.

Despite this, he's moving up an additional 2 weight classes to fight the lb4lb best fighter (counter-puncher) in the game, who has a significant reach advantage as well having already fought at 147 for years now. To anyone with even the slightest bit of reason, this is a mismatch and you can call it what you want but at the end of the day it will take a small miracle for Marquez to pull this out. All credit to him for putting his chance at Pacquiao and likely his career on the line.

I wish him the best and hope for an exciting match despite my reservations.

How many fighters are in their prime at 35??? especially one who has been in many battles as Marquez??... So, you consider this a legit fight for your cherrypicker hero? of course you do! you would find an excuse for all of your hero's unexcusable actions. He's a p%$$ee, everyone knows it... deal with it!:hi:

Even if Marquez won this fight fair and square, you'd think HBO would let Fraudy lose???? :patsch

They already have their eyes and money on Fraudy-Pacman.:deal

As a fan of Marquez I wouldn't expect you to need ME to tell you how old he is.

Marquez is 35, Mayweather is 32. So based on your logic Mayweather is past his prime as well. Hey, wasn't DLH 33 when he fought Mayweather and was considered past it?

In boxing you can never be sure, people said the same thing about Pacquiao recently moving up to fight DLH and people completely overlooked Pacquiao's defense claiming if Morales, Marquez and others were able to land then DLH will and it will only take one punch to seal the deal.

Marquez isn't moving two weight divisions, it's a catchweight at 143.

It sure isn't a tuneup. This is going to be a very tough match for Mayweather.

    Marquez is a counterpuncher.
    Marquez is smaller.
Marquez has never fought at that weight.
    Marquez is getting old.
    MArquez has a shorter reach.

    Mayweather knows that.
If it is not considered as a tune up for pbf, then why not fight Cotto or Mosley for example? His name is "money" right? You telling me that there is more money in a JMM fight than with these guys?

I laughed when Oscar said he wanted to beat Pacquiao to become the p4p best.
I laughed when Hatton said the same thing.
And i'm still laughing when pbf try to sell this fight saying he's coming back fighting the #2 p4p.

Darchynian saying he want to beat Pacquiao to become the #1 p4p would make sense.
But when the big guys say that, it doesn't make sense.

Sick of this p4p ****. Hell Hopkins is probably thinking about beating Pacquiao to become the p4p best.

JMM hardcore fans are hoping JMM can do a pacquiao on Floyd... but I don't see it happening... JMM is no Pacquiao...

JMM is very small compared to Floyd...

PAC is very small compared to Oscar...

But PAC has the speed, stamina, youth/age and ring experience advantages over Oscar...

While JMM has no advantage (maybe except ring experience) over Floyd...

How can you pick a boxer having no advantage over his opponent to win?? Nevertheless that boxer has a very small chance, maybe 0.10% chance...

Why cant you put it bluntly instead of prancing around the issue????

The difference is that JMM in fighting a live fighter very close to prime in Mayweather, while Pac fought a fighter who most claimed was sliding badly before the Pac fight, and was actually no more than punching bag for Pacquiao.
.....put it bluntly and stop waisting the readers time!

I see what's happening here. People wanna wanna downplay Marquez so after Mayweather beats him, they won't have to give Mayweather credit. Personally, I think Marquez has a live chance but it won't be size that will be his downfall. It will be skill. Marquez will hang around for about 4-5 rounds then Mayweather will turn the heat on and take it.
