Guys Even the footy fans among us who may sign up to ESPN anyway should not subscribe until they sign up some boxing content. The bean counters (who will report to the decision makers) will be looking at the subscription numbers every day, and anyone who signs up now (when all they have confirmed is 46 prem league games plus some US sport we used to get for free) will be earmarked as a soft touch. It is also very important that if/when signing up we all make it clear we are subscribing due to boxing content (if they ask, which if they are worth their salt they will). If people subscribe now it sends a poor message. If we subscribe when we see some boxing content, it sends the right message. I still haven't seen any contact details to make them aware of the bunce campaign etc. If anyone does find any, please make sure it gets posted. Rant over...and stay strong!
I won't sign up unless there's boxing on it - so you can count on my support. Sod the football, never liked it anyway.
i only signed up to Setanta for the boxing so will only do the same with ESPN if they start showing a commitment to the sport.
they are pretty foolish to believe they will get the required amount of subs from the monday night and saturday 5.15 slots of prem football the vast majority of people will only ever watch the top 4 play each other rather than overmatchd games on saturdays or mid table bores on monday. apparently the geordies made a large proportion of the setanta subs too and they are gone they should concentrate on the niche sports markets that sky and others ignore such as setantas boxing contracts, italian football, tour de france, us sports etc etc.............. People who matter read these boards so please please please get top class live international boxing back on our screens!
I mentioned it yesterday and I'll say it again. We have absolutely no indication that ESPN will show Boxing or are even remotely interested in the sport. No press releases, no actual rumours, just the hopes of a few people on ain internet forum because "Setanta showed it, so ESPN might do". As somebody posted the other day, apologies to whoever it was said something along the lines of the reason why the likes of BBC, ITV etc. don't show boxing is that it isn't particularly in the interests of the public, doesn't garner ratings and is risky. Basically, the BBC is showing Rowing this weekend. Now you folk on here might not believe it would get as many viewers as boxing, and maybe it wouldn't. BUT britain has a very successful Rowing team with personalities that people want to see. And unlike boxing, these other sports carry little to no risk. It won't be called off at the last minute when somebody gets injured, it doesn't carry the risk of being over in a few seconds or being a 45 minute snoozefest. If ESPN show boxing here, then I'll admit I'm wrong. But people here are claiming ESPN to be the new "saviours of Boxing" when they've shown as much interest in the sport so far as they have Handball, Chess, Arm Wrestling and those other odd sports on Eurosport 2. Sky are more likely to pick up the contracts of Hennessy and Hayemaker at least, and as Bunce's article in the Sunday Mirror at the weekend said, "Sky are looking at increasing the Boxing they show from September." Surely not coincidental that seems to be when Haye will fight Vitali. But no offence Chinny, I just don't understand why your post seems to convey that its a foregone conclusion ESPN will pick up major Boxing TV rights-there's not even an "if ESPN show it". Sorry to be so negative folks, but I'm a realist.
I won't be signing up to ESPN unless there is going to be boxing shown. I had Setanta for that reason alone and despite the fact that I love football, with SKY, BBC, ITV and all the press coverage it's pretty well covered!!! As for boxing...
can you sign up to espn like you did for setanta, or do you need a sky subscription first. I have a sky box but have had no subscription for years, but I was still able to get setanta.
Don't think anyone is saying ESPN are the "saviours of Boxing" but people are just trying to get their point across to ESPN that they want boxing to be shown as they are still in the process of buying rights to sports.
:goodadd to that the fact that their footy content will be less in a years time as well, as someone else pointed out on here yesterday. That said, I think the majority of people who post on here wouldn't subscribe if there was boxing on ESPN. Personally, I'm not getting duped out of even more money for relatively nothing. I'm not subscribing to another channel for a couple more games of football.
can't see ESPN getting showtime or HBO bills............the most we'll get is friday night fights a day later or something.........which, if it's consistent may be worth it
