The only reason I knew about it was because the other day my grandfather was talking about it

damn straight. i first heard about it reading an old interview with ali, round 1980 or so where he WANTED to fight john tate and was apparently in negotiations until THAT happened. i had to check out the fight after i heard how it ended. great finish. God bless the old fifteen round wars

This is one of my favorite all-time fights. Saw it when it happened. In its day, it was nearly as big as the Tyson upset was in 1990. Few expected Weaver to win going in, even moreso after Tate built up his insurmountable lead. One of the best finishes ever!!!

If Tate had won he had a 3 million dollar purse waiting for him for a fight with Ali. Tate was NEVER the same after this fight.

my great grandfather was an alcoholic who loved Boxing. He passed away in 1985 or so. He was Irish and loved to get tanked and watch Boxing on network TV on a Saturday afternoon. He said he was "nervous" and had to drink to calm him down but it was just an excuse. My how times have changed I wish Boxing could get back on ABC, CBS, NBC etc.

If Tate is in the best of shape....I go with him....Weaver threw a lot of arm punches.
