If JMM-PBF is @ 144, what's your beef w/ Pac Cotto at l44?

Why the double standard? I haven't heard complaints that Marquez is fighting Floyd at 144 in the welterweight division. You guys who are against catchweights, are you saying that it is not alright w/ Pac while it is okay w/ Marquez to fight at 144? Don't you know that welterweight class ranges from 141-147, and 147 is the weight limit of this division? So, what's wrong w/ Pac fighting Cotto at l43 or 144 w/ Cotto's title at stake? The sauce for the Marquez's goose should also be the sauce for the Pacman's gander.

As I've said before, boxers are not created equal, that's boxing gods created "catchweights".

You haven't heard complaints about Marquez -Mayweather being fought at 144? Man, you must have some massive earplugs!

Anyway, it's a different situation alltogether. Cotto is a much heavier guy than Mayweather, and enters the ring at about 10 pounds more, so asking him to come in at 145 is more to ask than asking Mayweather to come in at 144.

Also, Pacquiao has established himself in his last 2 fights as a guy who's comfortable fighting in the 140's, while Marquez has never fought above 135.

Conclusion: in the case of Cotto-Pac the catchweight favors the smaller man, and in the case of Mayweather-Marquez it favors the bigger man.

144/145 is just a fair catchweight for pac-cotto. 144 is a little unfair for jmm but we all know that floyd is a welter and possibly could not make 140 so 144 is a bit fair.

Because until a year ago JMM had never even fought at 135, let alone 140 or 144. This fight is a joke. It's a great payday for Marquez, which he deserves, but it's a joke. Floyd is going to kill him.

Floyd is not going to kill him. Its not a joke. Size is but one factor in the outcome of the fight. Marquez is the best counterpuncher, combination puncher, and ring general that Floyd has ever faced. Is he smaller? Yes. Does it matter? Yes. Is it the only thing that matters? Hell no! It matters about as much as Floyd coming off a 2 year layoff and a possible rib injury on top of it.

So stop complaining and enjoy the fight!

It will be a factor when Pac/Roach want Marquez @ 147lbs:deal
(I guarantee they will ask for the full blown WW limit if they ever fight again)

Because Floyd is the size of a typical 140 pounder and doesn't have to drain at all to make 147. Chances are if the limit was 144, 147, 154 or 200, he would still weigh the same amount on fight night and train in the same fashion.

Oh, and Marquez isn't expected to win. Pacquiao is. Pacquiao has also proven himself at 140 and 147, with fights against Hatton and De La Hoya. Whereas Marquez is having a baptism of fire and is untested above 135.

It doesn't take genius to see these things.

Cotto has a differnt body type than Floyd. Floyd makes weight easier since his in between weight doesn't balloon up like Cotto's. Both are LEGIT WW's but it seems Cotto would struggle quite a bit more with loosing those extra pounds than Floyd. But I agree that there should be a catch weight but not if Cotto will have an excuse should he loose.

they would probably ask for 140 if jmm wins against floyd. why would you think they would ask for 147 when pac weighted just 138 for the hatton and 142 for the oscar fight?
