hmm says... I heard of this story... brought to my attention after the Margarito wraps.... after the fight finished the other trainer immediately felt Resto's gloves and asked for them to be checked... "Feel this it's hard."

it wasa horrible tragedy resto never fought again conn was broken by his injuries, and the trainer recieved a lifetime ban in the us both trainer and fighter recieved jail sentances also

 

yeah i heard of it the collins chap died from drink driving cause he could never fight again and turned into an alco i read it in sports illustrated years ago, the gloves werent loaded were they he just had no bandages on wasnt it

 

Collins also sadly commited suicide a few months down the line as well:-(. I hope we get to see this documentary over here some time in the near future.

 

Na mate. They took the horsehair out of Resto's gloves as well as dipping his wrapped fists in plaster of paris.

You are correct.....Billy's father went to shake Resto's 'hand' after the bout and noticed how hollow the gloves felt. Disgraceful!!!!!

Tragic stuff and i hope stuff like this and the Margarito incident wakes up the commissions and they protect our warriors the way they should.

 

I remember that fight. After the bout, Collins' Dad, who also was his trainer/manager ,went over to shake hands with Resto. When he did, he realized there there was hardly any stuffing in the gloves. He held on to Resto's hand , and yelled for the boxing commision represenitives to see what he saw. Collins' face was badly battered, and Resto was not known for his punch. Resto's trainer, Panama Lewis, has to be the biggest scumbag in the world, closely followed by Resto himself. Billy Collins slow demise followed, and ended with a fatal, drunken car crash. Since then, the two biggest pieces of **** on the planet, Luis Resto and Panama Lewis have been totally unapologetic. They should both have their eyes poked out and refilled with horsehair stuffing.

 

Why the f*** doesn't the ref check both fighters gloves BEFORE the first bell, routinely ???

BTW, weren't those two (Resto/Lewis) finally sentenced for assault ?
