AND BETTER FIGHTERS...I see nothing wrong with a fighter dropping belts if he is fighting better guys then those the ABC groups want them to fight. In the case of some fighters they hide behind belts that keep pushing under deserving fighters off as top contenders do to their promoters. Giving up the WBC to fight IBF champion Tarver instead of fighting Diaconu was a good move, Tarver is a better fighter. Johnson is seen as the third best fighter at the weight and most want to see a rematch more then a fight with unproven Cloud. Let Cloud fight for the IBF if he wins the fight will be there down the line. Right now a win over Cloud would mean nothing.
Sometimes the ABC ranks have sense, they show who is still worthy and who is just past his best. Tarver had his time with Roy and that how he made his name long time ago. I can see the point to duck mandatory once for going for bigger name or bigger money but if that is happening constantly then its simply wrong.
While I will admitt that it does happen, its not been the case here...Let us not forget that Tarver had just dominated Woods to win the title, who in turn beat Johnson. Those guys along with Hopkins make up the top half of the top ten at the weight. Its should never be a problem if a guy is fighting one of the five best fighters at his weight, Dawson cant get a fight with Hopkins so he went after the second and third best guys at the wieght, and before that Adamek. Its not like he is avoiding fighting the likes of Diaconu and Cloud and fighting bums. That would be another story all together...
If he likes challenges, why he doesn't put on weight 25 lbs then and fight for decent cash and 2 belts, also championship of another, heavier division ? That's precious, don't you think ? I don't think he would have easier fight than against Tarver. He might get even more than 1mln dollars (he earned 1mln on Tarver) if HBO puts cash on the table, people would love to see this fight and PPV profits should satisfy everyone. Keep dreaming...
What Polish ego? Think about it, if even a prime Golota could come down to 175 Dawson "would always be better" ... big deal. The point is Adamek fought below his natural weight and the bottom line is Chad is the best in his division as Adamek is in his division. Adamek needs to fight at CW and Dawson can't go there, period.
REALLY???? PPV???? Who would watch a fight on PPV that is a rematch in which one guy got dominated??? Because Adamek got dominated...If you werent such a homer you would see that. It would be like American fans calling for a rematch between Lacy and Calzaghe...Besides no one here even knows who Adamek is outside of us hardcore fans and Polish-Americans. So unless they hold the fight in Chicago at a time were it can be watched in Poland at a decent hour the fight would do crap numbers. PPV??? And Im the one dreamingatsch
Thats why there is one year for fighting mandatory, and in the free time Dawson can fight whoever he wants. The bad practice of ducking mandatory is not good because the "top" guys can fight eachother until retirement without ANY relevance to the rest of the division. Say we can witness the Jones - Tarver IV, V, then Jones-Johnson a few times and 60 years old Hopkins fighting 50 years old Winky Wright for the ring title. At that time both Diaconu or Cloud will retire at the age 45 being still considered a contenders who never beat the 60 year old "man" in Hopkins. ... THAT is ABSURD but that is going to happen if someone is not wiling to fight his mandatory but always looking for better money deal.
again, wtf are you talking about? clearly you are annoyed that adamek got his ass whooped by dawson. adamek was a champ, dawson was a challenger, and he taught him a lesson. dawson isn't moving up. adamek should be seeking a rematch with cunningham who gave him hell, not with dawson. dawson is 10x the boxer that adamek is, deal with it.
You know, nobody who doesn't give a **** of boxing will not buy it for sure, and as you said only hardcore fans and Polish-Americans could make a nice ammount, there are more than 2 mln Poles(maybe even more) in the USA who identify with the country so much, so nice PPV result is possible, Adamek and Dawson are not Mayweather and they don't need more than 10 mln dollars for a fight, so why not ? Or even regular HBO could pay them enough bucks. Also, the fight wouldn't look the same, I'm so sure about that and there would not be such dominance at all, we could see KDs, maybe KO and bigger frequence of punches, why do I think so ? There's not Buddy McGirt in Adamek's corner anymore, so he's prepared properly. BTW, I'm the one who keep dreaming, I didn't mean it was you.
If a young fighter is doing what he has to do then he can crack into the mix...That is what Dawson did, its what Williams did, its what Froch did. Guys like Diaconu and Cloud did nothing, Cloud hasnt even beat a ranked contender and his next fight will likely be a title fight vs Woods. I will admitt that sometimes the OLDER stars hold up the progress in boxing, BUT if a guy is standing on the outside looking in and he is beatting the guys next to him in the ranking he will get his shot. If Cloud beats Woods then he would likely get his shot to fight one of the top fighters at the weight. What your failing to admitt is that we have too many belt holders that are hiding behind the ABC groups so-called top contenders. Zsolt Erdei is a perfect example of that. The guy has had a belt for almost 6 years and is yet to fight a top guy, but he fights his number one contenders all the time, guys like DeAndrey Abron who just got waxed by Mack. Was that a better fight then Erdei fighting lets say Woods, or Tarver??? I think not. Problem with some is that if boxing dont go the way that you want it to go you cry about it. I want to see the best fights, I dont care if a paper title is on the line or not. Johnson vs Dawson is the best fight that Dawson could make. The first fight was close and many felt that Johnson won, NO ONE thought that Adamek won, all I hear is a bunch of excuses about weight this and weight that. Adamek got dominated end of story, and no one outside of Adamek homers want to see that crap again. Wanting Dawson to move up is a joke the guy would be more comfortable moving down being that he isnt a big lt heavyweight anyways.
Yeah I beleive the number is closer to 10 million. most living in and around New York and Chicago and Detroit.
Dawson crack into the mix because Adamek VOLUNTIRELY offered him fight just before he became mandatory. If Adamek would not put his belt against Dawson then Dawson would have to fight Diaconu for the mandatory spot or worse both Diaconu or Dawson would fight bums for the next 2 years. Erdei is the obvious opposite of Dawson in the bad way ... he never fought anybody outside his mandatories which is simply LAME. Both Erdei and Dawson are wrong for the sport along with Hopkins who should at least fight just a single top LHW contender during his 3 year "Ring reign" at that division. Again I have nothing against Dawson fighting Johnson, Jones, Hopkins, Tarver or even PAC, PBF or Vic Darchynian as long as he is defending his titles ONCE A YEAR against the INDEPENDENT top contender.
Not going to happen, Adamek didn't call out Dawson, the interviewer asked him if he wanted to fight Dawson again, what do you expect him to say? I think Dawson has a lot of unfinished buisness in 175, with possible 168lb champions going up in weight. Besides Adamek is in a whole different division now.
