Some dude posted this on the general so it's not my scoop. Looks like Top Rank are trying to scupper the SM Tourney: http://twitter.com/trboxing EDIT: Interesting possibility that this may be a bit of sabotage (as mentioned on here by slip&counter) on Top Rank's part as the SM tournament official announcement is, apparently, imminent: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4317510 Who knows what is going on.
:thinkMakes sense now. I don't know what to make of this. It's a brilliant fight but I really wanna see the SM tourney.
I hope this doesn't happen, for the good of boxing the super middle tourney should happen. If Froch is out and Bute goes in then it will leave him frozen out to 2011 so it would be an unwise career move. It is also probably explaining why Arum is trying to make this fight happen, because he doesn't want Pavlik frozen out. If the winner managed to keep winning (which I don't see happening if it's Froch because the only fight out there for him would be Bhop and he probably loses that one) then it would be a huge fight against the tournament winner in a couple of years though.
**** the tourney, it will fall apart half way through anyway...beating Pavlik would be a real feather in his cap
Pavlik had his chance to have a major fight, but instead chose to fight Mora. Now that fight has fallen through and all credible opponents in and around Pavlik's weight will be tied up for the next year at least, leaving Pavlik out in the cold. I say it is his/Bob Arum's fault and they should fight whoever is left - Paul Williams anyone?
That fight should have happened before Hopkins if you remember. Then Arum did a u-turn. ****ing hell- the tourney was a great way of getting Kessler and Froch in the same ring:-(.
I think Froch would be more up for the tournament, its a greater challenge, plus guaranteed tv exposure for his next 3 fights at least.
It's a tough one to call. Pavlik is a huge prize to put on your record- that's the way Froch will see it and maybe HBO's money has won the day. I agree that the tourny is a bigger challenge, though.
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Froch always said he wanted to be the best in his own division. What better way than fighting Kessler, and numerous other big names in at 168. He only the other day claimed he would decapitate Kessler. To miss out on that to fight one fight with Kelly Pavlik seems short-sighted.
Froch would be a fool to throw away his chance to be big in america for fighting Pavlik. It's a big risk with little reward imo. He beats Pavlik people will say its not at Kelly's proper weight. If he enters the tournament puts on a good show he will be big on showtime for a long time.
