Boxrec has this fight up, now if I'm not mistaken Matthew Marsh retired from the sport when he was due to defend his British Super-Bantamweight title against Mark Moran because 'he couldn't make the weight'. Now that did seem a bit odd but if he thought he wasn't going to do much at Featherweight and he could make a decent living outside the sport it makes sense. But now here we have a fight scheduled from 5 months from when Marsh was meant to fight Moran and it's at Super-Bantamweight again. Anyone know what the story is ?
I wondered that, apparently he's back though, mentions it in todays Boing News too. Also Boxrec have got Scott Lawton defending his English title against Steve Saville in Wolverhampton (after Errol Johnsen won purse bids) but all the talk is of Lawton fighting at Super-Feather. My only thought is Lawton might have vacated that strap.
think this got discussed last week but Matt Marsh has not retired. wouldnt be suprised if this fight doesnt happen and he moves up to feather.
Matt Marsh struggled with the weight in the build up to the Moran fight and also in the previous fight against Rocky Dean. He was killing himself to make the wieghts and that can be extremely demotivating. Now Matt has got a nutrionist on board to allow him to make the weight without such a struggle. Suggestions that Matt Marsh ducked Moran are ridiculous. Since when has this boxer ducked anyone?! He stepped up to fight the tallest featherweight I've ever seen when he fought Derry Mathews!
