Everyone i want to put the emphasis on effectiveness when i talk about Robinson's jab. Wether it liked nice or good or correct, the facts are he could almost shut men out with it at times, almost i say, but that still impresses me greatly.

I thought he had a great jab personally, maybe he isnt mentioned with the ATG jabbers regularly because like you say, he did so many other things well, he basically was a perfect fighter in an attacking sense, I thought his jab was a very key punch in his stoppage of JLM, he controlled the pace of the fight with that punch alone at times.

Yeah but its along way from the Larry Holmes jab, which for me is the greatest jab in history .. Hearns's jab was better than Robinson's too.
But in the jabbing stakes Larry Holmes stands alone at the top of the tree, that jab was a serious weapon, it wasnt a 'set-up' for a right hand, it was a weapon in itself ..

I might be willing to fold on the infighting issue  but I`ll stick to the rest, just about everything else going to Robinson & an on par jab.

Agreed, Holmes had the best jab of any fighter Ive seen, perfect blend of speed, power & accuracy.

You're welcome, like i said before, the only area where i see Whitaker as clear cut better is in terms of skillset in infighting. But even if you are so skilled inside overall like Pernell, life would be hard in that office against Ray Robinson who can simply flurry and combo hit so fast and so hard.

All the other areas are very tight in my opinion.

This has been a great thread. Good posts and debate on the Pea-Robinson issue here too.

If we are talking the best overall ive seen footage of.

    I rate
    Robinson
    Leonard
    Ali
    Duran
    Prime Tyson
    Pacquiao
all above Sweet Pea. I dont care if i upset the Sweet Pea fans but even though he was great and talented and made people miss. He was boring for me.

If i asked someone on the street who Pernell Whitaker was they couldnt tell me.
But if i said Ray Robinson,Ali or Tyson they would know straight away.

So like someone said he lacked Power punching he also lacked fan base and was hardly known outside real boxing fans.

So to me even though i will say he was skillful as all **** had some of the best defensive work ive ever seen.

He was hardly a real superstar of our sport. In the early to mid 90's i feel guys like Dela Hoya,Chavez, Jones Jr, Holyfield, Tyson those guys had more fans and were on the news more.

Which is why in some weird way is why i feel for him sometimes while being so talented and not being as popular as many other guys.

But hey its only my opinion and i know how many love Pea but for me i like guys that get my blood going and entertain me why i pay my 50 bucks. But you cant take away his talent.

So eat me up spit me out if you like i dont care but remember boxing is full of all different type of fans and you can probably tell by the names of some of my favorite fighters that i liked the blood and the aggresive guys so my opinion on Sweet Pea is different to others.

I would watch Tyson, Tszyu, Hagler, Hearns, Pacquiao, Foreman, Dela Hoya anyday of the week. Poor old Sweet Pea is like PBF for me, Which is great. Both are but will i pay to see them everytime. NO.

Jeez, i bet you think Ricardo Lopez is the pits of the earth then considering your criteria for what makes a great fighter ??
Its all about fan-base and promotion ??
