Weight gain will add power to Pacquiao’s punch–trainer

    September 17, 2008 02:29:00
    Roy Luarca
    Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—Manny Pacquiao’s power is proportionate to his weight. As he gains poundage, so does the wallop of his punches.

Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza reportedly made the discovery during his stint at Pacquiao’s training camp in June, when the Filipino ring icon challenged and eventually beat David Diaz for the World Boxing Council lightweight crown.

Ariza, who also monitored Pacquiao’s nutrition, power and speed from Day One of training up to fight night in Las Vegas, affirmed that Pacquiao is endowed with superior strength.

In a Pacland Forum post Tuesday, Ariza supposedly measured Pacquiao’s power at the start of camp when the four-division champion weighed between 147 and 150 pounds.

The finding startled Ariza, who’d worked with other boxers, and turned him into an instant believer of Pacquiao’s widely recognized brutal power.

Ariza, of course, can’t explain what happened in-between, when Pacquiao slowly stuffed himself with nutritious food, vitamins and drinks before he fought and knocked out Diaz in the ninth round.

Ariza merely concluded that Pacquiao is more dangerous if he doesn’t lose weight during training.

And since Pacquiao is slated to fight Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds on Dec. 6, he no longer needs to go on diet because he normally weighs 144-147 pounds.

Ariza may be at a loss to describe the phenomenon of losing and regaining power, but the explanation may have come from Pacquiao himself.

:rofl:rofl:rofl you are a clown eze. you have been exposed as a lying fraud.

here is proof. i highlighted it again so you will not claim that the article states that it is his fight night weight.

you insist that pbf is like this but it is impossible for pac?:rofl:D:lol:

you and danny_rand are like maggots.
you are alive but practically without brains.

The possibility is remote that Pac reads posts in ESB forum. He reads Pacland though. :D

Pac wants to make his mind up.

He either fights at welterweight against welters or he stays at 140 and fights 140lbers.

It's not only Pac who will decide on this matter. Cotto also. It takes two to tango, right? It also takes $$$$ to agree to fight. Whatever you say, if the two agrees to fight at 141 or whatever, you can't do anything. It's either you watch it or you don't.

Oh i agree with what your saying, but i think Cotto would be stupid to go down any lower than 145.

I think Pac can hold his own at 147 without the catch weight.

Also as you say its the $$ that will decide where the fight goes.

Let's wait when the two sides (Pacquiao and Cotto) starts talking directly. As of now, all of these are press releases.

What are the chances that Manny wants/needs credit from ESB.

Think about this...do you really think Manny gives a **** what anyone thinks about him (other than his countrymen), let alone people who sit on here all day and ***** and complain about anything/anyone/everything?

He sprays that P4P bull**** around because he knows people love it, it's a popular opinion list, and it makes him a bigger draw for more CASH.

The man has a plan after boxing and is getting money the best/safest way possible to explore bigger and better horizons and to fund those endeavors.

No matter what he does with the remainder of this career, he will still be regarded as a legend in the eyes of his country which is all that really matters to him in the end.

There are quite a few people on this little message forum who post insightful, factual, boxing related news which is great, but it is unfortunately flooded with a bunch of uneducated fools that spout BS and garbage. It is one thing to be a fan, but Jesus Christ....

Word to the idiots...there is nothing you can do on the little website that will tarnish the careers of boxers whether it be Manny, Pavlik, John, Wlad/Vitali, or anyone for that matter.

Remember each and every ranked boxer do not give a **** about this website...sorry.

Public forums...got to love them, I know I do. lol :good
