I watched FNF as they asked Teddy about Povetkin. They showed video of Atlas training him (ESPN Suck-up) then Teddy announced that he is training povetkin who will be moving to the states in 10 days to start training for a "TUNE-UP" fight in september as a way to get ready for Klitschko.

    Questions:
1- GOOD move or BAD move by team Povetkin to bring Atlas in?

2- Will Atlas make a difference for Povetkin by December for Wlad fight?

3- is a tune up fight in Sept a huge risk so close to the fight with Wlad?

    thoughts?

I'm really not an expert on boxing, but I'm starting to think they could tape his fight analysis and just dub in new names week to week. OK. Maybe they would need two or three of them, but they all start to sound the same to me.

If you get to meet him in person ask him about the jab being the most important punch in boxing and how it relates to Wald. Preferably on tape.

If he has the skill to beat Wlad, I can only think Teddy will help him. It's not that he's a bad trainer by any means. It's just the fact that everything centers around Teddy when cameras are around.

    1. Good move, Atlas can help with improvement
    2. Atlas will not make a difference, Wlad is too good
    3. Bad move, risks another injury

At least now you can't blame Teddy for picking against Wlad and continuing his record-breaking losing streak in predictions.

Povetkin has come in a bit higher weight during his recent fights. If he can get him to shed 5-10 lbs (which is a lot to ask these days from a professional boxer:nut), then he'd already make a difference. But the "there comes a time in a man's life...." bull**** is not gonna do a thing.

good point.:good:good didnt think about that, A weak guy and Povetkin wont really find out if its working or not.... to tough of a guy and he could have problems with his #1 mand position. TOUGH CALL:good

The biggest problem for Povetkin is Atlas' 0-99 prediction record..and you know he's going to go with his man.
    Povetkin's doomed.

    :yep:good
Wlad knows Atlas is not a fan and Wlad is not a fan of Atlas. Atlas needs to keep his mouth shut (which is hard for him to do when the camera is on) if he talks **** that will just give Wlad EXTRA motivation:good

If povetkin needs a tune up fight, then what does that mean for wlad? he wont fight til next year? IMO wlad needs to stay on with his current average of at least 2 fights a year for his legacy.

    1) Good to give him advice, won't make any major changes though, just some advice which doesn't harm.

    2) No difference, just certain tips. Povetkin will fight the way he always does with a few tweaks here and there but nothing big enough that people will say they saw difference.

    3) No it's on. A tune up is a perfect idea to make sure he's 100%. The man is coming off an injury that canceled the first fight and surgery. It's only reasonable for him to make sure he's 100% before taking on the best heavyweight out there. If he loses he knows he's out of the picture for a while, so making sure he goes in 100% is a smart move that proves he's serious.

Povetkin fought estrada after the injury, that was a number of months ago. Teddy would have 2 solid months with Povetkin. I think this is plenty of time for him to get ready for a sept fight with wlad. I was disappointed when atlas said povetkin needs a tune up.

Also working with a new trainer in his corner he needs a fight under his belt in 'game' conditions.

    1. Bad move. It is clear what they are trying to do with Povetkin give him some head and foot movement and make him more "compact" so he can get inside. Since Povetkin is willing to come to the States they should have just gotten Teddy Atlas daddy Kevin Rooney to train him. Rooney does not bring all the drama and BS that Atlas does.

    2. He might help him a little bit but he can only do so much in a short period of time. Plus when fighters "change" styles they tend to revert back to what they were when they start to get hit.

    3. It will be interesting to see who they choose as a "tune up" if it is not a tall fighter it is pointless. Povetkin can cut and he swells bad also. Could be a mistake if they bite off more than they can chew. Them fighting a guy around 6'0" does NOTHING for preparation for Klitschko.

Don't see the point... whom did Atlas train in the last... hmmmm 10 years? I just think the guy has too much anger towards the Ks to be effective in anything related with the Ks. It's pity, I really like Povetkin... but no boxer deserves a clown like Teddy Atlas.
