I share your feelings, Odo, but I had to suffer even more than you, because listening to Günther Peter Ploog, whole fight long. It`s a scandal, how the zdf commentators analysed this fight. :scaredas:
Come on Odo, i´ve read a lot of your post and i know you´re not a Sturm-fan. As i said i can understand if one gives the fight to Gevor, cause he was much more active, especially in the first half of the fight. To me it was a could of been either way type of fight. People love Gevor-kind of fighters, cause he´s the type of guy who´s giving his all, great heart, but there was no quality in his punches, Sturm landed much cleaner. No way this was a robbery. I have seen a lot of really bad decisions coming from Germany, but this one was not, it was just close. I can only disagree with the 117:111 score. That was much to clear for Sturm.
If you watch this fight again, unbiased concerning fightstyle, round by round, without Ploogs comments and the spectators noise, and you just count the clear shots, then you`ll see that Gevor wasn´t just more busy, he in fact landed much more than Sturm.
Sturm was getting buzzed by Gevor at least 2 or 3 times from uppercuts, GEVOR was ALSO landing clean my friend.
The *rumour* is Sturm AND Pavlik are getting 7 million EACH for to fight - it was a forgone conclusion that unless Gevor sledgehammered Sturm into the canvas he was going to win. Sucha fight would make the promoters/judges/sanctioning bodies too much money for them not to fix it. (Yes Gevor had a higher workrate though but Sturm was cleaner. Depends on your POV - remember many here say Hopkins beat Calzaghe for just the same reason Sturm beat Gevor....) I had a draw personally. No 'clear' winner.
I had a feeling that was going to effect this fight i had read about Sturm vs Pavlik. Shades of Sturm vs DLH with B-Hop in wait
German press: Sturm is the king of the ring: A super-fight - a clear, fair trial! http://translate.google.com/transla...g-verteidigt.html&sl=de&tl=en&history_state0=
