as one of the most entertaining fighters of all time ,for me he is right up there with the best ,thoughts ?
He's hard to beat. The physicality of his comebacks; all those moments with him doubled over, knocked senseless, slowly picking himself off the canvas, twisting and reeling in agony from the shots, barely on his feet, battered beyond belief - when it looked like there was no imaginable way he could possibly fight on let alone win in spectacular fashion, made him visually one of the most breath-taking athlete performers ever. He was in a league of his own there.
gatti was an exciting crowd pleasing warrior,who had big balls i enjoyed watching gatti fights... boxing needs more warriors like gatti to get the general interest back into boxing..
He's up there. He's been in so many entertaining fights, some of them FOTY type battles. Rodriguez, Ruelas, Robinson, Ward, Manfredy. Some of the lesser talked about fights of his were still pretty good fights, like the 2 fights with Patterson, fights with Baldomir, Damgaard, and explosive KOs/ass-kickings of the likes of Gamache, Dorin, and Millette. Among this era, I thought Erik Morales was definitely up there on Gatti's level in terms of entertaining fights, if not higher. The thing that Gatti had that Morales didn't was in his fights, he seemed so close to being done. He was not only dropped and hurt against Rodriguez, but looked damn near blind in one eye at one point. He looked at times against Ruelas, Robinson, and especially Ward that he was ready to be finished. And then he'd come out of nowhere to either win the fight, or get out the jam and last longer (and sometimes the distance).
since i started watching boxing gatti has been a fighter i always looked out for upcoming fights so entertaining just couldnt believe the desire and sheer will he had to carry on no matter what for me him barrera and morales are the 3 fighters who always entertained for me
As far as entertaining fighters go? ****, he's right up there in the Top 10. There was a big thread a while back about your favourite, most watched fights and also fights you would show a non-boxing fan to get them interested in the sport. Gatti was mentioned in about every 2nd post. That speaks volumes for the man.
He fought every fight with 100% heart and he'll never be forgotten. He was the reason I got into boxing as a youngster. To me he was like a magnet to the sport
not even top 50 at WW but a always says he is an ATG for he would be remembered and for his contribution to the growth of the sport
saad is above him in resume AND skill. when it comes to flat out entertaining fighters though Gatti is right up there. As a fighter he is in the same bracket as a Ricky Hatton or Nigel Benn.........in the top 200 'post-war' list but never gonna be in a top 100 ATG list. Entertaining, good at what they did (for all three fighters is different I'm not comparing them as fighters only in resume/H2H potential) but never gonna' match up well against 'ATG's'
