Past or Present. I'll start; Alex Arthur We all knew that Arthur struggled to make Superfeather and this was only going to get worse as time went by so time was of the essence in getting him a shot at an alphabet belt. As soon as he beat Sinisten I would have lined him up for a shot at a title against a weak champion. The year and a half he spent at euro level simply used up time on the clock in which he was fit at the weight. By the time he fought Nicky Cook for the title he was a shadow of himself. Jamie Moore - Beat Mathiew Macklin 3 years ago in that war but has only stepped up to european level now. It's clear that he's above European level as it's been a walk in the park for him so far. He should have fought for the title 2 years ago and be at world level by now. I fear time may be running out for him too. Ricky Hatton - Would have gotten him a shot at the likes of Vivian Harris well before the Zoo fight. All those meaningless WBU fights just used up time on his body clock and by the time he became elite in the division he didn't have all that much left.
Joe Calzaghe - Gone to the US around 2000, woulda cleaned house and become the biggest star in world boxing bar no-one. Its a shame frank Warren didnt put him on the undercard fo any Hamed fights over there, well whilst he was still promoting the Prince.
Audley Harrison - As it appears, he does not like getting in a fight. I would have moved him differently...away from Boxing.
Would have put Hatton in with the likes of Corley, Mitchell and Harris before or even after the Tsyzu win. Lets face it he'd never have beaten Floyd and Manny but he could have gone up in weight better and looked good against the likes of Cotto. Also should have fought Witter. As Calzaghe should have fought Froch. Don't care who would have won I just get disappointed when BIG British fights that are there for all to see never materialise
Moore suffered badly from the baysangurov pullouts. twice i think he did it. he probably did lose a year or two of his prime years because of that. dont see any point in sticking around the euro scene. the level doesnt seem too great.
Do me a favour!!! putting Calzaghe in with the best of the US bunch would have been total career and financial suicide for both both parties..... that is why it did not happen!..... It is not always about who you fight, it is about who you don't fight and when and where you fight them... timing was the key for JC..... he chose right not going near RJJ and B Hop until he had too.....when he wanted too....:yep
david haye! i would have liked to see him back in the ring 4 months after the macca fight against a barrett level opponent, and then 5 months later against a genuine top tenner. on coming through those two fights he would have been in a much stronger negotiating position with the klits. although i do respect his desire to face the best so early in his hw career
Naseem Hamed, move im in a way to establish genuine greatness. After beating Belcastro for the Euro title aged just 20, I would have kept him at bantamweight as he would have beaten the champs of the time. Way I see it, the reason Hamed didn't fulfill his ambition of being a 5-division champion was because his first world title was at feather, when it should have been at bantam and his 5th at lightweight (not super-middle as he seemed to think). I'd also have taken him to fight US/Mexican champs in their own backyard, not bother with the pointless WBO title and staying at home in his comfort zone. After winning a bantam title move up to super-bantam and fight MAB. Aged 21 and with the full range of his reflexes I say he widely outpoints Barrera and KOs Morales at that weight. That way, Hamed establishes himself as a genuine all time great rather then be remembered as a showman mostly in the US.
