Ring Magazine's "Fight of the Year" should be named after Arturo Gatti.

    Who epitomized the essence of what makes a Fight of the Year more than Thunder did?

    some people are going overboard calling gatti an great or comparing him to fighters he clearly had no business being named alongside, but i actually think this would be a great tribute to gatti and very fitting. well done.

    I don't know. Gatti is flavor of the week. His fame at death will fade in a week's time.
    I still prefer the original generic Fight of The Year Award.

    But what would be the name of the award :

    The " Aturo Gatti " Ring Magazine fight of the year
    The Ring Magazine " Thunder " fight of the year

    mmmmmmm........... , maybe if they named the 2009 FOTY , after him that would be a nice jesture , but yes totally agree with the logic behind the thought , nice one mate !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Completely agree. Diego Corrales was another warrior but did not take the pounding and nor was as resilient as Aturo. Now email ESPN to make this happen.

    We should email ESPN first to start the buzz then email Ring Magazine to make the shock...since Ring owns the name.

    I know we're all sad about Gatti dying, but geez.

    Should "Fighter of the Year" be re-named to Sugar Ray Robinson since he's the consensus greatest fighter ever? Should "Round of the Year" be re-named to the Hagler-Hearns award? Should "Comeback of the Year" be re-named to the George Foreman award?

    Gatti is most definitely not a "flavour of the week". He's always been a fan favourite and deserving of any fight fan's respect.

    Is Corrales any less loved now than he was the week after he died? Not a chance.

    Even if the fallen warriors don't get talked about as much as when they died, they never fade from our hearts.
