Is Joe Calzaghe a "Ricky hatton" that never met a Floyd or Manny in his division

Their is this consensus that Joe ducked all and fed on a diet of cans but who did he avoid exactly.Ottke was garbage and avoided Joe like the plague and Hopkins bolted from negotiations in 2003 askiing for ludicrous amounts of money even exceeding what he made in the Trinidad fight.Admittedly Cal ruled a weak division with not the type of rivalries the Welter division has historically enjoyed but his record is not too shabby either having beat 7 former,current or future world champion not including Jones or Hopkins in his run at Super middle which puts him at the top of the division historically regarding his resume

Calzaghe had the following attributes:

Great Chin, great stamina, great skills, great natural talent, great speed, great fighting heart, GREAT RING INTELLIGENCE and most importantly his ability to figure out his opponent and adjust during fights.

He was the complete Package. His only weakness was his punching power, which, due to his brittle hands he lost the ability to punch hard.

Who else has qualities this good? Let's have a look at some other fighters:

Jermaine Taylor: Great Skills and Speed - no stamina or heart.
Kelly Pavlik: Great heart, power punch and Stamina - lacking in skills and speed.
Carl Froch: Granite Chin, Huge Heart - Very slow, like Frankenstein's monster in the ring following his opponent absorbing punishment, not much skill, no defense.
Ricky Hatton: Big heart, good stamina, good chin, great bodypuncher - no defense, footwork or headmovement, low ring intelligence.

Joe had it all, it's just a REAL shame that, like Floyd Mayweather he never pitted that pure natural talent against proper ATG prime opponents who could really test him.

Now we'll never know.

 

He ducked his Floyd/Manny by refusing to fight Jones for all those years.

 

He knocked down a 37 yo Calzaghe with a forearm to the face.

Hopkins gives most people tough close fights and makes them look bad no matter his age.

Get used to it guys. Calzaghe is and will continue to be an ATG. Don't forget he's had to adapt by fighting and beating the likes of Lacy, Kessler, and Hopkins with the disadvantage of fragile hands. After Hopkins beat Pavlik, Calz. moved up the ATG list and guess what, Hopkins is still high on the P4P list, but that doesn't matter does it? The next step is to see where Kessler ends up. If Kessler loses, it's not that big a deal, as people will say Calz. ruined his career, but If Kessler wins this 168 tourney, do you see Calz. staying @ his same ATG position? Didn't think so.

The answer to your question is no!!! I wont defend Calzaghes record because it clearly isn't as goos as it should be...but you'd have to be a fool to not see that he is infinitely more talented than Ricky Hatton!!!

And as has been pointed out, the Jones KD was by a forearm - and then Joe went on to humiliate him!! I wouldn't use that ffight to hype up Joe's record and I suggest you don't try and use it to discredit him.

Yet why did he make the fight AFTER he stated beating Jones now would do nothing, yet when he wins, he makes it out to be the best thing he's ever done.

I'm not defending Calzaghes resume..I consider it a joke for someone as talented as he is!!! But he never refused to fight Jones...he and Frank Warren never positioned themselves to fight him - there's a massive difference!!!

I read the whole statement. you're infering that if he would have caught him clean with the punch he swung, it would have hurt more than the forearm across the nose!!!

If I had to take one, it would not be the forearm that's for sure!!!

I understand why you're criticising calzaghe as he does overhype this win massively and it's frustrating as I favour Jones in their primes....but I don't think you're being objective with your posts!!!
