If the second Marciano Charles fight had taken place today Marciano would have won by technical decision since the cut was caused by an elbow and he was ahead on the score cards.

You might be reading too much into Marciano being cut prone. He was in my opinion but not to the extent that it would usualy determine the outcome of a fight.

The ONLY fight that Rocky was close to being stop on cuts was Charles 2, but under todays Rules would be rule a points win for Rocky, in the old days if a foul cause a cut, it was the same as a clean punch.

People make a big deal out of Rocky being stop on cuts imo.

Holy was exceptionally strong at cruiser and very good at moving guys and creating angles. I give him a strong chance of beating Marciano. He is the only guy who fought at cruiser i give a better than 50/50 shot at beating Rocky. If you factor in Dempsey, Tunney, Charles, Walcott and Moore at their best even Louis and Frazier at a stretch then the waters muddy a bit regarding Marciano.
At the risk of a bit of blasphemy to some I think a prime 200lb Chris Byrd troubles Rocky especially over 12. Very slick, sturdy southpaw. Lived in Lewis shadow but extremely underrated

    Holyfield is the obvious choice.
He matches Rocky well in the intangibles department, had decent power, a rock-like chin, very good all-round skills and counters very effectively. We also know he can go 15 rounds no problem, although Rocky would no doubt fight at a terrific pace later on.

Personally, I think it's a close to even fight.

I honestly think that the cruiserweight Holyfield would do better against Marciano than the heavyweight version.

    Seriously.

Because of his superior workrate at Cruiser?

    Yes.

Combine that workrate with his other strengths and he has a good chance.

Marciano would beat Holyfield at CW I think. Holyfield just wasn't experienced enough in the oven to deal with something like prime Rocky. The guy who has been in with Bowe three times...workrate allowed, i'll take the HW version.

I think that Holy's only chance would be to match Marciano's workrate with better technique.

He is not going to do any good by trying to shove Rocky about.

I actually disagree with you, respectfully.

You can't outbox Rocky. You must outmuscle him. If he could be outboxed with skill or "attribute" physical advantages then masters Walcott or Charles would be sitting pretty above him on ATG HW lists.

Conversely to your position I think Holy's only chance is to hit the trenches and outman Rocky, which I don't favour him to do. But the HW version that's already been through hell and back has a better chacne than the inexperienced Cruiser version IMO.

In regards to Holyfield I think in a twelve round fight he could possibly win a close one on points.... but I think if it was an old fashioned fifteen rounder 'the Rock' would get to him in those last three rounds, probably winning by brutal KO.... plus with Rocky's Suzie Q around anything could happen at any stage of the fight if you lose concentration for just a second!

Byrd: I completely agree ... could even win ..

Foreman, under 200, no way ... look at his pre-Frazier 1 fights ... he is 215 or so ripped ... he just as easily would be 235 today

I see the prime 190 cruiser version of Evander as able to decision Rocky ...

    What about Roy Jones?

    That would be interesting....
