I don't think it's out of the question to think Marquez could beat him though. Marquez has proved time and again that his indomitable will to win is great enough to enable to overcome adversity. I think when a man like Esparragoza steps in Marquez can score with the punches in bunches enough to earn points. Even boxers with good in and out movement and who put punches together well get countered by Marquez. Wether i'm right or wrong, 'no way' is not the correct line of thinking in my opinion here. Close fight definitely. I still pick Marquez though.

his resume seems sub standard mind, though that is never the best way to judge a fighters worth.

I think Morales would be able to feint, trick and force his way to a close decision, I think it would be a barn-burner though, I mean a beautiful fight, a great one.

The Barrera fight might even be a better fight. I don't think that Barrera could out-box Esparragoza, I think he would need to make pressure to win, I think it would depend upon how Antonio dealt with that pressure. He was really good at making space for himself...I think he should be favoured to take 2/3.

Marquez, I can't call. I think it would be one of those decisions that nobody could agree upon with. A 15 round fight would be fascinating as could be. Marquez is a master tactician as well as technician and his across-the-ring adjustments would be fascinating, but I wouldn't speculate here as to what they may be. If Antonio tries to press Juan Manuel, he gets beaten though. He needs to box and be careful to box.

I don't think anyone hits to hard for Marquez at this weight.

Esparagoza was faster and hit harder then Marquez.Marquez struggled with Wheeler and Norwood at Feather.Esparagoza was really something-most people have never seen him box.
Morrales would trade too much with Esparagoza and it would cost him but I agree it would be a hell of a fight while it lasted.
Barrera would have been a great fight as well and truthfully that could go either way.

True. I was always aware of him, yet for some reason his career passed me by without me getting to know much about him.

Marquez is a master counter-puncher. Any speed deficit may not be that relevant especially if Esparrogoza gets his fight plan wrong. He was inconsistant after all, and i'm not sure how he would react to someone as adaptable as Marquez.

    :good

I don't even see Marquez as being as adaptable as the best who are regarded as such, i just thunk he's that good in his own right that it doesn't matter most of the time.

And to say that Morales trades too much with a man at featherweight is far from on the money imo. Of course there are sublime exceptions, but come on.

So......why doesn't this guy have that great a resume? Whatever happened to him? How would he fare against the likes of Little Red? And to a lesser extent, McGuigan? Was he that good, or is he just good H2H with a poor resume?

I don't know that his resume is particularly poor. He beat Cruz out of sight in his hometown and held it for four years before losing it in Korea. Just not a top-line resume.

As for his head to head ability, sure. He could fight.
