I was about to ask the same question......pretty much everyone (on either side) had said it would be a close fight.

:think I'm going with Whitaker. I believe his ability on the inside (defensively especially) is definitely the x-factor in this one.

Go there and register, then you'll be able to upload things, it's fairly self explanatory (my way of saying I'm too lazy to explain :D ).

A prime Duran would've dealt with Benitez more convincingly than he would Whitaker, IMO. Benitez lacked the backfoot movement, workrate, and jab that Whitaker posessed. The Duran he faced was nothing like the one we're considering.

:goodStill wonder why the cards were close when Duran lost to both Benitez & Hagler:think. It would of been interesting to see them get it on at Welterweight, would've been a great fight.

No right hand? His southpaw jab (right hand) was arguably the best in history. Beinge a southpaw, his left hand was his power hand, and an excellent counter weapon. In fact, it was one of the best ever in that regard. Whitaker was among the most skilled boxers in so many areas it's stunning. Aside from power, he had the total package. Oh yeah, and it's Whitaker, not Whitacre.

No he wouldn't; unlike Viruet, Whitaker could punch as a lightweight. Duran wouldn't be able to just come barging in against him like he did against Viruet and so many other lightweights who couldn't punch. Whitaker could get his respect and make him think.

Frustrates Duran by making him miss and taking his best while firing back.
