Save for a few ignorants it's nothing to do with race. The reasons for people disliking Khan are the above, plus some of his idiot fans (I witnessed this first hand at the MAB fight and I'm sorry to say it is mainly the Asians who bang on about him being the "property of Islam" and try to behave in an intimidating manner towards others). It is not fair to hold this against the fighter, however, and I do actually think he has knuckled down and become a bit less of a big-time charlie since the Prescott loss to props to him and good luck. The Kotelnik fight is totally undeserved and clever matchmaking by Warren, but it would still be a good win if he pulled it off. However, in my eyes he will need to prove himself against a Bradley, Holt, Witter, Urango, Maidana, Ortiz, Ngoudjo or someone of that ilk. ,Maybe even Hatton if he continues and depending what he has left. I have left out Malignaggi as, though a world class fighter, he has little/no power. I guess what I am saying is I won't be totally convinced by Khan until I see him handle a world class fighter with power.
My main beef with Khan is still the fact its PPV especially after the 1st PPV fight ending so brutally with him KO'd in under 1 min. It doesnt matter how you dress up Khav v Kotelnik, its nowhere near PPV worthy and if you charge serious prices the fans have a right to demand serious fights.
This is simply regurgitating lazy tabloid journalism based on nothing more than the fact that both are British fighters who are middle eastern in origin. There is no comparison at this stage between Khan and Hamed. Hamed was the man at his weight for a good 4/5 years, beat ten world champs and won numerous big fights away from home. He lost one fight, by competitive decision to a surefire hall of famer. Hamed beat at least a dozen fighters who were better than anyone currently on Khan's record and Khan has already been ironed out inside a round by an unknown. It disappointed me that he never seriously came back after his one loss, but Hamed was no joke at his peak. If Khan turns out to have half the career, he won't have done badly for himself. Imagine Khan cleaning up Kotelnik, Bradley, Holt, Witter, Maidana, Urango, Ortiz then losing to a moving up Marquez and you might have the equivalent. I can't see it personally, but there you go...
I agree totally with this. Sky's PPV events have been a joke for a while, but while people continue to pay, things won't get any better. It's natural in a market economy with commercial competitors. If people will pay PPV for a big night of fights, they will then test the water to see if they will pay for a merely decent night and then a mediocre one. That's how we've gone from getting 5/6 world class fights (DLH-Quartey/Morales-Chacon/Carr-Randall/Calzaghe-Reid/Woodhall-Nardiello) for our 15 quid to getting two unproven prospects (Khan-Prescott) and a glorified European title fight (Arthur/Cook). This won't change until the fans vote with their feet!
i agree with this post, i think its mostly the rabid khan supporters that bring up the race card no the khan haters.....and i find it a travisty that prescott is not getting the due he should but khan get the magical undeserved title shot....
Watch any stream with chat, or view any YouTube vid and you will find an overwhelming racist sentiment, maybe not on these boards, but certainly a large part of the hate shown towards Khan is race related---the casual boxing fan doesn't have a ****ing clue who John Murray is.
