Very sad because Gatti was the true incarnation of the word WARRIOR. On the other hand, he never was an AMERICAN mainstream star. He was born in Italy, raised in Canada and became a popular fighter in his sport, but not a De La Hoya or even Mosley caliber of icon for the US public, and of course this article is about the US media response of the WARRIOR's sudden death.

Lesner is the current UFC HW champ and former WWE wrestler record 4-1.

Thing I don't get is why'd Gatti marry some psycho Brazilian??

He had movie star looks combined w/$$$. Why not hook up w/a hot Italian? He'd get the cream of the crop in Montreal...

I think this has less to do with Boxing's relevancy and more to do with people being sick of all these celebrity deaths. I know I am.

Gatti's death has gotten huge news in NYC. It was on the cover of the Daily News on Monday.

The thing is Gatti isn't a legend...he was essentially best known by the viewing public for being a punching bag with powerful arms. Deaths only matter when it happens to a legend apparently.

Even here in Holland, barely anyone would know who Liddel or Lesnar is.

Thanks to Kid Cuba & Motorhead for the info.

-Boxing is chess in a mine field...MMA is just a dogfight.

Well both are more important than Gatti in their respective sports. That's a pretty unfair comparison. Lidell is considered one of the leaders of the MMA Boom in the states and Lesnar is a former WWE superstar who headlined Wrestlemania and is currently holding the UFC World HW title.

This isn't about MMA vs Boxing...it's about the mainstream media continually ignoring everything about boxing. **** Mike Tyson's WEDDING got more pub than Gatti's death.

The author didn't mention MMA...so why are boxing fans dragging it into this?
