Prime Frank Bruno v Wlad klitschko

Bruno became a bit of a star after he lost to Tyson & Lewis. Most fans in the States didn't even know of him before those epic wars................

 

Bruno was your typical British Heavyweight ie: no Chin, no stamina, mentally weak etc.

He was strong as a bull though, he wrestled well in the clinches and he had a decent jab. Not on the same level as WK's jab though.

 

Bruno's problem wasn't his "jaw" you flid. He tired easily and early.

I don't know what'd happen tbh, I'd like to think Bruno would knock him out but I think Klitschko's too tight with his defense these days to know what would happen.

 

Bruno lacks the skills and the dominant ring presence to beat Wlad.

Please run me a brief history of Bruno's losses again

let me summarise...

all against world champions

many not with the skills or longevity of Wlad Klitschko either

many just skilled genuine world class HW's with a belt strap


and Wlad record for the last 5 years as HW champion of the world is well above all his opponents in terms of legacy bar the prime Tyson.



Wlad is far far far superior to Bruno in every area.

 

this is a fair assessment of bruno but he was a VERY solid contender. he was in his prime during one of the better heavyweight eras of all time and yes, is well known for his loses. but he was doing well against lewis before the stoppage and well, he was stupid **** scared of tyson both times. i don't think he'd take wlad but on his best night (let's say...mccall fight) he was quite a good boxer, with a great jab, decent power and like you said, amazingly strong

 

Pretty much a 50/50 fight. The longer the fight goes, the more it favours Klitschko taking him out late. Klitschko once had stamina problems like the muscle bound Bruno, but not so much anymore so past 6 I favour him getting a stoppage over a tired Bruno round 10/11. No earlier, Wlad won't go for the kill while there is any danger from Bruno.

Early Bruno has a great chance. He is one of the few men Wlad will have met that has the size, arm length and power to really get to him early.

 

Agreed on all counts. He did give Lewis a better fight than I expected but I think that was more of Lewis fighting to his ego rather than fighting smart. Hey, that style worked well for Lewis against Ruddock & Golota, not so much vs. Bruno or Briggs.

 

damn right. he wanted to please the british fans, who to be fair would NEVER love him like they did frank. i think bruno fought brave and confident that fight, which made a big difference. if he fought that strong and that agressive against wlad, it'd be a long night as the poster above stated, he'd be dangerous for a few rounds

 

One of two scenarios:

1) Bruno stops Wlad in the first 3 rounds. Or....

2) Wlad dominates and punishes Bruno for about 7 or 8 rounds before finishing him.

Both scenarios would happen if they were to fight 10 times, and whoever says that the first one would happen more often than the second is rather biased.

 

i agree this COULD happen and may be his best chance but i really don't see this happening all that often. i rarely saw an aggressive bruno who came out swinging in the first few. he liked to work behind the jab and i just see him being patient more often than being reckless

 

Being patient would be suicidal - he can't outjab Wlad over more than 3 or 4 rounds. He had a great jab, but his stamina would let him down in a huge way.

 

exactly...too many muscles, too much heart but just didn't have some of the other tools he needed

 

What are you on about, I said Bruno lost to better fighters than WALDO has lost to and you bring up Lewis's losses :huh

Incidentally yes I consider Rahman to be better than Sanders, seeing as he beat the guy :nut

As for prime McCall v prime Brewster....I don't see much difference between the two of them, I certainly wouldn't say one was much better than the other.

 

He was very competitive on the cards against Lewis, and in case you hadn't noticed Lewis is a far, far better fighter than WALDO.
