Have you ever seen Pinklon thomas, Bonecrsher Smtih, trevor Berbick, etc. fight?

Chagaev, Sultan and the rest are about the same level, in some ways techincally supperior. Its factual.

The only two exceptional fighters Tyson ever beat were Larry Holmes, who was 37 years old, and Michael Spinks, a 33 year old light heavy with chronic knee problems. the rest were pure ABC.

Tony Tucker was a nothing. He was getting thoroughly outboxed by Buster Douglas before Douglas got tired and quit. Someone summed him up compeltely correctly when they said that he was big, awkward and durable. Nothing more.

the legend of Tony Tucker is perpetuated mostly by guys who have never actually seen him fight. Do you fit into this category?

False righteousness/contempt/anger is so very contemptable. I am not going to namecall you in turn- its not my style. But you clearly do not have the knowledge that you think that you do.

    Tony Tucker. Lol.

Imo those heavies of today can“t really fight. They are too technical/tactical, especially those Eastern European heavies. You cannot beat Wlad that way, he is too good in fighting tall. You have to make him fight. I think most of Tyson era top dogs would stand a better chance against Wlad, cause they would try to make it a fight and they had the better tools there.

    You are a character.

Look, you called me a jack ass, and now a couple of other things, on the false premise that I don't know what I am talking about, when I clearly do. I am not trying to insult you, but settle down- talk to people instead of insutling them. Especially on a false premise.

Tyson's oppnents were subpar. Tucker was a quality opponent, but not a great one. Tyson's two biggest names were not what they once were, and a lot of the other alphabet guys were just poor. Pinklon Thomas I think was the most skilled, but he had that nasty heroin addiction- takes it out of you.

Chagaev is really no better or worse than this crop, and neither is Sultan. They both had long, quality amatuer careers which they translated into undefeated pro records with ABC titles.

    Great fighters? No.

Quality fighters, much along the line of a Tucker or a Thomas? Yes.

Thats all I am saying. And of course, I am correct. No need for the hostility, and in the future, feel free to approach me on these boards as a pal.

    Peace.

    Sorry, but that's utterly wrong.
And the Douglas fight was dead level on the scorecards, not a 'thorough outboxing'.

Perhaps I overstated this- but in all fairness I corrected it in other sentences. The point is, he was certainly no better than some of the guys today that "fans" incorrectly call bums. He was by no means the great opponent that many Tyson fans wish him to be.

As for dead even- not how I remember it. In any event, I think even dead even agaisnt Douglas very much proves my point- Tucker did nothing to break above the pact. He is not the might-have-been-great-but-for-Tyson heavy that Tyson fans often wish to point to.

    Hope this squares things.

POST SCRIPT: Just checked it on Wiki and...

Douglas was leading on the scorecards until he appeared to grow tired in the later rounds before being stopped by a TKO in the tenth round.

So I think that the diffenrence we are talking about is that Tucker won a couple of those later rounds before the stoppage. But Douglas was thoroughly getting the better of him early on.

    Peace

One question I'd like to ask is how would Wlad fare in the 90's?

He'd have the likes of Lewis, Bowe, Tyson, and Holyfield to contend with for starters, as well as Moorer, Mercer, Morrison, Ruddock, McCall, Tua etc. A pretty strong decade for heavyweights, all things considered.

To be honest, I don't think he fares that well. He'd win some, lose some. He could win a title, but how long does he hold it?

Lewis- Lewis by KO. I like Wladdy, but there it is. Lewis was an even better version of Wlad.

Bowe- 50/50. A lot of guys point out that Bowe was a great infighter with power who beat a great figher in Holy. They say Wlad would not stand a chance. What they rarely point out is that Bowe never had another good fight, looking like utter **** against guys like Tubbs and Golota. Bowe on his best days knocks Wlad out. Any other day, he just gets outboxed.

Tyson- Wladdy. This is the one that I think is just plain delusion on the part of fans. There was nothing left of Tyson's greatness by the nineties. The bobbing and weaving was gone. The combinations were gone. Tyson was always at his worst agaisnt tall guys, and I think he just would have quit here like he did later in his career, and even. if we are honest, agaisnt Holy in the second fight.

Holyfield- Commander Vander by the decison. Wills his way past the jab and lands those combos. Maybe even knocks Wladdy down.

Moorer- Wlad first round knock out.

Mercer- tough fight, but I'll pick Wlad. Ray's power was overrated- maybe because he was never skilled enough to properly deliver it, but one way or the other, he didn't stop guys (other than Morrison) like his reputation would indicate. At a little over six foot and not fast, just gets outboxed by Wlad and can't do anything about it.

Morrison- Wlad by first round KO

Ruddock- 50/50. Does Wlad keep him at the end of the jab, or does he land "The smash."

Mcall- Wladdy tentativenss saves him in this one. he just does not make the mistake of getting hit by that right hand as Lennox. Oliver was not a hard man to outbox if you gave his right respect.

Tua- Wlad. I know this will be controversial, but its more or less the same as McCall but with the hook. If Wlad is careful, he stays out of range of the 5'10" Tua much the same way as Lennox did. The jab is enought o win.

    Decent post. Thanks.

I do find it a bit strange though, that you pick Wlad to beat Morrison and Moorer by first round KO.
I reckon that, although both weren't known for their chins, they did carry big power and Wlad would be mindful of that. I'd predict a more tentative start from Wlad.

These would be fun to watch: Wlad, Morrison and Moorer all have (had) suspect whiskers, but carry concussive power.

I agree about Mercer's power being overrated. He was more of a clubbing, wear-you-down type as opposed to a proper KO artist. It could be a case though, to play devil's advocate, of Mercer's chin keeping him in the fight and landing something late, like he did against Francesco Damiani.

Morrison hs the most overrated power I have ever seen.

-He could not tknock out poor Michael Bent who had pre-existing brain damage (my god, no insult here to Bent, the poor man almost died in the ring)

-he went life and death against a totally washed up, china chined, feather fisted Carl williams

    - Had his jaw broken agaisnt fringe contender Joe Hipp and struggled to put him away.

-most of his power came from a bottle anyway, if you get me.

As for Moorer, never trust a man who won his title because his oppoenent had a heart attack in the ring. He would have made a fine cruser, but did not have a heavyweight chin, and his power at that weight was much overrated. All that needs to be said about Michael is that he made his bones agaisnt Bert Cooper, who was a crusier himself, and was little more than an "opponent" type fighter with an extra big punch.

Mercer broke Damiani's big Italian nose. No slur here, I got some Italian blood myself, but the fact is that he just caught him right in the nose. It was no devistating knock out by any means. Paramedics were not called in to revive the man. He just caught the nose right, and Damiani quit.
