The American interviewer seemed to be insinuating that Hamed was scared to fight Mayweather. Was he right?
Hamed wouldn't have got near Mayweather.. I loved Naz in his day BUT Mayweather is just out of his league..
I think Larry Merchant's spot on. Naz beat some good fighters but imo would always fall short against the elite of boxing. A young Floyd outpoints Hamed imo. Edit:I think Floyd had a chance to stop him late on..i see plenty of flash knockdowns against Naz.
People slate Mayweather for fighting a smaller guy in Marquez and Hatton. I bet Mayweather hasnt weighed more than his opponent when they step in the ring this century. People want him to fight Cotto, Mosley and Williams, im sure he would say bring it on if they brought back same day weigh ins. Even Pacquiao weighs more than 147 on fight night.
But guys - do you think Hamed was scared of Mayweather, whatever our opinions of who'd win? Rob - surely Mayweather would have been a large super-featherweight, considering he's still a lean 147lber? He would have dwarfed Hamed had that fight been made
I think Hamed was. My reasoning for that was that Floyd not only had great speed but his skills would be a nightmare for Naz and i feel Naz knew he could fight the fighters he fought at featherweight and keep winning. He felt he could beat Barrera as he under estimated Barrera's skills and boxing brain but he knew Floyd would be to much of a risk and knew he could get clinically out boxed.
Are Cotto and Mosely really bigger men, considering they started their careers as light-welter and lightweight respectively? Williams and Maragarito are huge welters, but size-wise Coto-Mosely-Mayweather thre's probably not much in it?
Cotto comes in around 160lbs on fight night, Mosley was around 155lbs against Margorito. Mayweather was only 148lbs when he enterd the ring against De La Hoya who was higher than 160lbs on the night.
Blimey, how do these guys boil themselves down like that. It just demonstrates the utter fallacy of Hamed moving up to feather when he did.
Mayweather can say what he wants. He is the best and has proven it in the ring. Looking forward to his future fights TBH.
