This guy's career is crazy. at one point his record was 123-2-2 yes you read right 123-2-2. with this amazing record he fought for the USBA title against kevin pompey a fellow jouryman and was beaten easily.

his record now stands at 179 wins 120 KO'S and 20 losses with 2 draws. he may be the worst fighter with the best record of all time, his record is amazing. but dosent tell the whole story as i have just proved.

Smith has more wins than any fighter since

Over on this side of the pond, his left hook, buggered up Kirkland Laing's shot at a world title!

He seemed a fair fighter then, a legitimate world top 30 Welterweight.

I saw him fight Laing (as I'm sure TBooze did) he looked a pretty solid fighter, athough Laing could blow hot and cold (to say the least).

Don't be too harsh on him, he wasn't one of those fighters who fought in his home town or had the luxury of plenty of notice of when he was fighting etc.....

Ugh, he was a good sized fish in a very small pond. No one's ever said he was a world beater but you do not compile that kind of record if you're not a fair fighter.

He nearly killed Laing with a single left hook which one him that fight. Compare that to the drubbing it took for Colin Jones to stop Laing.

Also, I've actually seen some of Buck's other fights, like his match against Margarito when Smith had two hundred fights behind him. He was not a weak willed mouse of a fighter who showed up for a payday, he did fairly well against Margarito and hit him with some absolute bombs in the form of his left hook.

Also, you're faulting a guy who fought from light welterweight to cruiserweight, and contiuined having fair success into MW.

Also, he fought under different alias' and had more fights then boxrec indicates. He fought several times in one day more then once.

I knew Buck in the 'old days'. He was a really good guy...his association with Gibbons was both a blessing and a curse.

His record was padded with multiple fights against the biggest losers of his time. Sure he had a couple good wins and even a few good fights, but if you ever had the time to go through his record fight by fight you would find alot of guys taxi drivers from Mexico beat.

    Why's that?

Gibbons' past speaks for itself. I'm not saying he's a bad guy personally, but if you know the name you know he was canned from Top Rank.....involved in 'Operation Matchbook', etc, etc. The "Blessing" was Gibbons' countless contacts - particularly in the Midwest, (related to O'Grady), endless drive(s), sharp mind, etc, etc....
