Where would he rank ATG? Let's face it: he almost certainly would have thrashed SRL to a decision, and he probably would have bombed out Hagler with superior speed and power. Surely he would be one of the top 5 P4P of all time?

His career would certainly have gone up to heavyweight, with results to show for it at that weight.

If he had Hagler's chin he'd be the greatest of all time.

But he didn't so this thread is fairly redundant :good

He would be the best of his era and top 10 p4p fighter of all time. Arguably much better.

Then aren't half the threads on ESB, the fantasy match-ups etc. redundant? :good

No, because they discuss genuine 'facts' about either fighter and weigh them up.

It's like me saying 'what if Malignaggi had Julian Jackson's power'. These things never happened. The fighters didn't have these attributes so we can't possibly tell. Maybe Hearns would change his style entirely. Too many variables, this IS where the 'fantasy' should stop.

Still, I posted twice so can't have been all that bad mate :good

In their first match, SRL appeared to hurt Tommy to the body. At the start, Hagler didn't bother to test his chin, but immediately went downstairs, and Hearns drained quickly. Whether it was due to a pre-fight massage of his legs, Marv's body attack, Tommy accepting Hagler's terms of warfare, breaking his hand on Marv's head, or a combination of all, Hearns was greatly expended after the opening three minutes.

Given Hagler's chin, there would still be questions about Tommy's ability to take it downstairs, as well as his stamina.

I don't know about that. SRL looked more knackered than Hearns after about round 9, and Hearns was dancing around him like he had been at the start of the fight. He was certainly hurt by body shots, but he manage to recover from them pretty quickly.

Without excuse making, I think Hearns slowed down after the first Hagler round largely because of the hand - without his best weapon, he was never going to be able to outslug Hagler, so he started boxing. I don't think it was a stamina issue, especially after only one round.

I say in all seriousness - he would be the greatest fighter of all time...and probably the best in every weight class from 147 - 168!!

Hearns with Hagler`s chin would be easy top 5 all time & probably the hardest fighter to beat in any weight class in history, he`d likely have beat both Leonard & Hagler.... & that dud Barkely certainly wouldnt have a win over him, thats for sure.

It makes little difference as Hearns' legs were his problem, his chin was fairly sound....
