I always thought that he failed to fulfill his full potential!!

But it just goes to show that being defensively elusive alone is not enough. I think it pays homage to the fighters discussed earlier in the thread that he wasn't able to accomplish that much!!!

Kinda like Chinxs idea but how about you do it in sections so like

Guys who used movement for defence:

    Pep, Canto, an early Whittaker

    Guys who slipped shots excellantly:

    Benitez, Locche, Canto

    Guys fighting in the pocket:

    Locche, Mayweather

    Aggresive/less reknowned defences:

    Monzon, Duran, Frazier, Tyson

thanks will give it a watch.

He looked good in that other video in terms of defence but his offence was crap

Great point. People say Locche was limited offensivly (which he was) just shows how great his defence was

Greg he was immense mate, he could box from a technical standpoint perfectly, then he could do that **** you just saw in the highlight, the clowning. And he could produce the goods against another pure boxer as well, in Montiel, who was quality then.

Well, nobody's really given Ali much credit yet but for a big guy he was pretty friggin' hard to hit. Other big guys, Holmes and Jimmy Young were pretty good at it too. And a few posts back you mentioned Tyson, GP. For a swarmer, a guy who's first thought was to get inside and take your head off, he had not only good head movement but he had good torso movement.

knew we was missing some ali is obvious

Tyson in his younger days was a defensive wizard. His head movement was brillaint he was very very hard to hit. I have seen tapes of him training and his defence was phenomenal really great i rate him highly in defnce stakes.

Also I think we should do a ESB classic show where we all sit down and discuss the defensive fighters :rofl

Oh you mean an actual show with video, audio and all? We'd need quite a few remote cams for that.

    How'd training go today?

Locche's title winning tko victory over Paul Fuji was as much due to fatigue and mental exhaustion from the futility of trying to land something on the brilliant Argentine as from any punches landed by Locche. I've watched the fight on video and I think the hard punching Fuji was beaten mentally.
