It very well may have. I used to train in the same gym as Perez's cousin...he's the one who told me that Jibaro was never the same after the tapeworm was removed. I'm sure Hernandez's skill played a factor in it.

An uninterupted span of 5 years, which is longer than any other person, including legends like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Emile Griffith etc, have ever held the title for. Yet ironically, he lost plenty of fights before, during and after this time and had an unremarkable record as a boxer even though he is the longest reigning welterweight champion of all time.
